I know this is specific to every situation, but without a doubt they both responded to and developed more with the male coach. Neither one of them have ever mentioned whether they would prefer a male or female because I truly feel it doesn't even enter into their thought process. I think the idea that some parents want diversity just based on saying they want diversity is probably the true root of the problem. Why is their a need to put specifications like gender on a soccer coach and if some parents are doing this aren't they actually the ones that are being discriminating?
Because its about opportunity at decision making positions for those that find themselves left out because of an all boys network.

why is it, the status quo, will say anything to maintain the status quo?

My daughter has a male coach and she likes him. The entire team responds to and respects him. If I wanted or didn't like the fact that her coach was a male I wouldn't have her on the team in the first place. This thread is so damn stupid. I wonder what gender, race and ethnicity the coach is for the OP's kid. You know what, who friggen cares!! If it's a good fit, stay...if not find another team with your preference of gender and color. SMFH..

Those that don't want change are usually members of the status quo.

The whole point is when you look at youth soccer, there should be more qualified female coaches in the system. It is not about whether male or female is better in any particular situation.

your way of thinking keeps everything the same, making a concerted effort to put more female coaches in position of power changes the overall dynamics and allows good female coaches to be given a chance in all boys network.

        Again its not complicated

Of course the boys network does not see any issue with the boys network. They keep posting on here saying no changes are needed everything is great, no female coaches needed. Just like CEOs telling you it’s all good with mostly white male CEO’s. The hypocrisy and bias reeks. If you can’t see that having more good, strong women role models in the game you’re severely biased. Period end of story.

I find that my son responds better to a female coach but my daughter responds better to a male. I don’t know if that has anything to do with gender roles and relationships we have with our children, but it is definitely indicative in our home too.

Thanks coach we know you want to keep your job. No one is saying one is better than the other. There is just not enough diversity and therefore that alone makes it impossible to choose if you prefer male or female better. Capice? How the heck would one choose a woman coach at CSA GA of none exist. The white boys club just keeps defending itself. Some options and further changes are needed fast. This is about equal opportunity and allowing the young ladies to learn from someone they can relate to!

I am all for diversity, but I don't know if I could confidently conclude that the lack of female coaches at CSA comes from a "white boys club" or simply from a lack of qualified female coaches applying for the job. Do you have any specific insight where CSA hired a male coach over an equally-qualified female coach?

Exactly, just some lardass parent that has nothing better to do but stir the pot. How about the lardass look at their coaches, on their site, there are at least 3-4 women trainers, black, Hispanic, etc. coaches. Dumbo trying to grasp at anything to suggest the club has acted poorly or discriminatory. What a pos. Get a life.

Wow. Why such an aggressive response to my statement? I am not a coach and I’m not following your line of thinking about how my statement could be derived as a coaches statement but nonetheless if there was a specific incident in which a male coach was chosen over a female coach that was equally qualified than you have a leg to stand on. Otherwise you sound more like you have an ax to grind and are grasping at straws.

Yes- 97 percent of academy coaches are male and women make up 51 percent of the general population.

you think those numbers happen by accident?

common sense tells you a platform should be created for female coaches. I don't have to prove there are a lack of qualified women coaches, you have to show what clubs are dong to improve female mentorship.

and when you say qualified for youth soccer, you have got to be kidding me

So your purposefully only looking at who coaches GA rather than the entire coaching staff as a whole, correct? How do you know those female coaches that CSA Monmouth currently employees arent being mentored to move up to GA? What do they need to do to show YOU that they are indeed employing and possibly mentoring female coaches ??

more female coaches at the top of the food chain- decision makers, not just foot soldiers. especially on the girls side. this includes ECNL as well.

Just because the percentage of male academy coaches doesn't coincide with the gender profile of the general population doesn't mean there is an issue. What percentage of women soccer players are interested in pursuing a coaching career vs. men? I would guess far fewer women look at coaching as a career path because sports as a career path overall for women is much smaller. Is some of it because of lack of opportunity? Probably. Far more likely is a lack of interest among women players to pursue coaching as a career. Can more be done to build interest among women to pursue coaching as a career? Probably. But until that happens, you can't look at a club's male-dominated coaching staff and simply conclude it's because it's a "boy's club".

Common sense tells you that if there was more demand by women to pursue a coaching career that someone would take the initiative to support and satisfy that demand.

spoken like a male who is part of the status quo.

It is no longer good enough to say " oh well, maybe there are just not enough female coaches, or maybe they not qualified. That is the thinking that justifys inaction. and helps to keep things just the way they are. The same logic was used in corporations across America. I tell my people if the structure is not there, build it. Inaction is acceptance.

With All The professional leagues and high level women players, common sense should tell you something is wrong.

Truth, the bias and ignorance continues with these folks statements being coaches or parents. Why do defensive against more opportunities and diversity???? Makes you wonder what’s going on.
