    ECNL Arizona National showcase cancelled

Looks like the April event in AZ was cancelled in order to look out for the safety and security of its league member families. Great call by the ECNL. Will the GA follow suit in doing the right thing and cancel their FL event in April? D1 Recruiting dead period anyway so makes no sense to travel down there for a week spending thousands of dollars then come home and quarantine for 14 days. The poor girls will be out of in person school for almost 1 month. A little common sense would go a long way here.

Agreed, no D1 coaches with the blackout period so makes no sense to spend all this $$ and a week away from work and school not to be seen by anyone. Hopefully the GA follows suit and not make a bad decision again like the Texas snow and ice storm debacle in Feb. At least ECNL has been around the block and does not make desperate decisions.

The City of Phoenix didn't approve the tournament. ECNL leadership was 100% willing to hold the event. Why do you think they waited until last minute cancel?

Agreed great call by ECNL to look out for the safety and security of their customers and families. And I’m sure coaches that were not going to be there respect the decision as well since they can attend at a later date. Will the GA take a similar approach?

ECNL didn't make the decision. They were told NO!

Great move by ECNL. That’s a league that feels comfortable with its product and makes decisions based on the best interests of its members. GA should learn from that.

Yes they were restricted by state and local laws but at least notified people right away so they can cancel their travel, get refunds etc. Frankly it's kind of surprising as AZ hasn't been very restricted the last year

ECNL should move future showcases away from Phoenix to avoid these types of restrictions. If they want to stay in AZ to give easy travel for the California teams, relocate to a Phoenix suburb such as Barcelona's facility which is outside of city limits.

Not sure that facility is large enough. Also, not enough hotels. Area has huge development plans and 10 years from now it will be booming.

This is a one-off because of Covid and I think it wasn't just a local problem but state rules as well. The facility works very well normally. Both GAL and ECNL got screwed by highly unusual TX weather too. Sometimes things just don't go your way but 99% of the time it's fine.
