It is hard to think of a single endeavor that is not set up to reward people with access to better training or education. When people compete for things, they look for advantages. Whether its college admissions, job placement, making sports teams.
Just saying Liverpool’s front line came from abject poverty. Why isn’t it an all US front 3 with the expensive, high-quality training?

Not really comparable. We are talking about competition between youth players within the same geographies and who ultimately makes the "top' teams.

Liverpools front 3 is a question of the sport's relevance in the country each was born in, their relative athleticism and ability compared to other internationals. Soccer is not a very popular sport here so we do not have the knowledge base and also do not attract the best athletes to play it. Firmino may be from poverty but guarantee that by the time he was 8 years old he was in an academy that would blow the doors off of anything that exists here.

Right and guaranteed that his family didn’t pay for it.

All this is a long way of saying system in the US is f’d. And will remain so until clubs are rewarded for development after having worked with a player rather than before.

Seems like a lot of poor people succeed in basketball and football. Maybe soccer in the US is really just for those rich kids who don't have the talent to play basketball or football.

I have a sneaking suspicion that you are actually the OP. Nice try at sneakily plugging your club though. 👍🏻

True but we also have to be careful what we wish for because those environments where the best players are created are really, really awful for the 99% who dont make it. It is a question of what price we are willing to pay to find the very few potential gems.

So true. When people in the US babble on about free soccer for talented poor kids, they are almost always talking about the giant, highly competitive first and second division teams in places like the UK who have their own academies, which are free. But they are intensely competitive and only for the very talented. A few weeks ago an immigrant teen who had spent several years at the ManU academy committed suicide just a few weeks after being released by the team.

The story of Jack Harrison is telling. Harrison was also at ManU's academy getting one of those free soccer deals, but his mother became concerned when she saw how ruthless the system was, and when she heard that private high schools in the US gave scholarships to talented kids, she sent him at 14 to America to play soccer for the school and for the club Black Rock FC, and to get an education. Though the idea might sound bonkers to a lot of Americans, he was subsequently drafted by NYCFC and of course has since returned to England where he plays for Leeds.

Yeah. Neither of my children paid a dime in 2019 Summer because they need us more than we need them.

So just to confirm...you started a thread pretending to be a parent looking for a club in the Morris County area, but specifically NOT STA or Matchfit, just so you could swoop in and plug your own club?

This might be the most lame thread in the history of this messageboard.

This might be a record...you quoted your own original post to compliment yourself, and then you just quoted your own quote to plug your club. How desperate are you guys? 😂

Can we all just say a prayer for all the parents who believe coaches are trying to screw their kids over ahead of this crazy season. By placing your D or S in a team with similar level players is the only goal. If that means that they’re being placed with players you consider weak then you should know where your kid stands. If you’re being told your kid might not get playing time in top team, move to the second team and get as much time as possible. If you’re choosing to leave a club purely down to placement of player, you obviously don’t support the club in the first place. Trust the process.
