Am pretty sure going to one of those A-teams wouldn't have changed her trajectory for college soccer, but am also pretty sure that adding the 30-45 minutes of travel 2-3x/week for practices might have impacted both her academics and her desire to play.
Definitely is a personal decision and many factors, my pov was only general and based on experience where theres a huge difference between how the first and second teams are treated. At some clubs the second team is treated really well, which woukd really be a positive for them if i was evaluating. Ultimately whatever works for your child is best for sure.

If you had asked me 3 years ago, I might have agreed with you. But on D's team, the coach switched to a new team manager, and it made all the difference in the world. The old team manager treated the role pretty much like an administrator and that was it. The new team manager worked hard to get the club to pay more attention to the team and it really payed off.

That is also a great outcome win/win for your D and your family.

There's that, but that's all inter-club (and doesn't happen at all clubs) and the more important factors are fit, quality of coaching. Your local options will vary, but being on a B team shouldn't be much of a factor vs the other 3 much more important factors.

We have had a similar experience. Change is not always a bad thing.

GA getting killed in Frontier Div. First they lose 2 clubs to ECNL then another to ECRL and now they got capped at the knees by ECRL taking 5 more clubs in what would have been Frontier GA div.

ECNL is going to gut GA as in order for GA to gain clubs they would have to take them from DLP and USYS/EDP who are their partner leagues.

GA is getting destroyed. Sad but true. Things could have been different if the USSDA handled things differently. Not telling customers the truth is having lasting effects. Attacking ECNL back in the day will have even greater impact as the ECNL will not stop until GA is done.

Does anyone see this as a promotion? The wording is clear. They are being given an “opportunity” for “promotion” to ECNL. That clearly means welcome to RL but they are also saying after a few years maybe there will be promoted. So that means the majority of players U15 and up when the college showcase years matter will not have that opportunity.

Yes, it's an opportunity to prove they deserve a promotion to ECNL. That's how ECRL has been positioned everywhere in the country outside of NA and NE divisions. Two of the recent additions to ECNL were the result of those clubs proving themselves in ECRL for a year. No surprise here.

With ECRL getting its own national and top ECRL teams able to make ECNL champions tournament they will have the chance to get noticed. And if they do dominate across the board early they could jump to ECNL the following year. Which is better then if/when GA fails moving back down to whatever league they came from or never taking a chance to begin with.

If these clubs really think they have what it takes then why not go for it? Instead of applying for ECNL year after year why not go ECRL and just prove it.

If they win their division across all age groups in 1 year, they can get promoted to ECNL. So those older age groups except the U19s and some U18s will potentially get the opportunity.
