They just aggregate players developed elsewhere....like ECNL stealing players and teams developed by the DA/GA. Shameful.

ECNL came about because clubs like PDA and FC Stars had enough playing local teams/clubs and winning 6-0 at halftime. The original concept was to put together the most successful clubs in all four regions to play against each other. If you look at the original group they were made up of the most successful clubs in the country at the time. The idea was to make it just a few clubs in each State and region so that these clubs can gather the best players not only in the area but the State to train in a competitive atmosphere with like minded players and play in highly competitive games and then have college showcases in every region to draw teams to play each other. Colleges immediately were drawn to this concept and the monster of ECNL was born and thrived. Unfortunately now this league has lost it’s luster by adding clubs that are not on the same competitive level as the original group. There are clubs added that have not been able to compete at that high level. When you go to ECNL events now and see the lower level ECNL games the quality has dropped significantly. If you look at the top 20 ECNL Clubs/teams vs. the lower 20 ECNL clubs/teams the difference is striking and in my opinion has hurt the league.

ECNL also came about when USSF foolishly decided to focus on only doing BDA and not doing a girls program. ECNL founders saw a big opportunity and took advantage of the gap. HAd USSF done a girls league not much longer after BDA started, ECNL may not have ever gotten going.
