Yes, a sad excuse for a boys league. It's mls next or nothing for high level boys.

Not so fast. Usl academy was created to have a pro pathway for usl2, usl1 and usl championship pro teams. These other leagues were made to take your pockets.

Your kid has a better chance in these academies than mls.

Nothing wrong with usl to try and make it pro, but let's not forget that mls is the first division in the us. Better kids will naturally be on MLS academies. That is exactly why Clark transferred from Barcelona to RB, for the promise of going overseas.

You realize he didn't transfer from the Barca academy in AZ right? He trialed at Wolfsburg, and at RB Leipig. Everything he learned was at the Minnesota Thunder Academy, an ECNL club.

He started his youth career in Minnesota, but left at 13. How would ECNL take credit for his development? He went to the residency program in Az for 3 years and played in the DA. Of course he trialed overseas. Our top players go overseas. Going from RB was an easy way for him to make the jump due to the reach of the organization. Not sure what your point is here.

I'm happy for the ops that Copa is giving, but let's not pretend that's the best way for our top players to go pro. It's a great alternative to other methods for better players. Also, this has nothing to do with girls. Copa had neither ECNL or GA for girls.

Again, there is no boys GA, and for boys, of course usl2 is better than ECNL for boys in theory because it's a pro pathway. Copa plays edp and usys for girls and that's it. Nothing wrong with it, but obviously ECNL is the top league on the girls side.

Match Fit and and Next Level boys teams have agreements with the Real Central NJ team to provide a potential path for their players.

I don’t have a dog in this fight and this is only an outside opinion but what I do like about the USL2/ academy is that at least it is a plan that makes sense and should put more responsibility on clubs for the development of their players. If in a few years it isn’t their academy players playing on their USL 2 teams, it will say something about their development vs their recruitment.

For top players, there are much better paths to choose at the present time but the USL plan has the potential to elevate soccer overall in the US and for more US players to emerge at top levels whether it be MLS or overseas.

All true, but need to keep in mind that USL academy is one team for the older kids, not really in competition with ecnl or usys nl.
