Match Fit was in the Semi-finals of the state cup last year only losing to State cup winners FA. Match Fit has been a stronger side than PDA for several years now. Not a surprising result in my opinion.

LOL.... some parent at practice last week said even though a team gets knocked out first game ( technically second round) they can still go to regionals as a lower seed? Is that true?

They lost to Ukies 1-2 and tied Penn Fusion 1-1 in the Acela league. Those aren’t bad results. Very good competition. They have 2 wins, both 2-1 at U13 11 vs 11EDP. Those were wins over JAE and STA MO. Also not bad results. They did lose their state cup game 1-4 vs PDA Pre-MLS White. I wouldn’t suggest they are struggling at all.

Kids most likely burnt out. They lost some kids before summer plus don’t they play everyday (practice or game)? Kids need a recovery day too.

It don’t matter! Union team has a very strong foundation. Coaches go above and beyond to develop their players. They only lost 1 player but they have some of the most skilled/technical players in the state. Team is very strong trust me.

why would they drop down couple of flights in upcoming edp cup fall tournament, initially they were in top 2nd flight?

Losing one player shouldn’t matter but they lost more and being burnt out should definitely matter at this age.

There are 3 tiers of the State cup for NJ. Similar to a tournament with 3 different flights so you play appropriate level teams.

National Championship Series is the top tier of teams, Presidents Cup is the 2nd tier of teams, Challenge cup is the third tier.

National Championship Series:
This competition is recommended for teams participating in the USYS National League P.R.O. and National League Conferences (Premier I & II)

Presidents Cup:
This competition is recommended for teams participating in EDP Premier III, IV, or V

Challenge Cup:
This competition is recommended for teams participating in CJYSA-EDP Premier VI-XI, MCYSA, Metro, MNJYSA, and MOSA

74 teams entered at u13 with NYCFC being one of them. I bet their clubs and parents disagree with you about it being irrelevant. Teams from NY, PA, CT, Massachusetts, Maryland, Ohio and Florida in the top few flights at u13.
