GotSoccer rankings are a complete joke. They award points for wins and their points system is very skewed in the favor of events they schedule. They don’t include results from leagues or tournaments that don’t use their scheduling system. It is extremely flawed.
Using the teams you said: FA accumulated lots of points points from winning the Lou Ramos Classic tournament and EDP Fall Kickoff on top of the points they earned last year in their league games when they played up in 9v9. 2 tournament wins puts the FA at number 1.
CSA Bergen hasn’t earned any points from tournaments yet because they played instead in the Capelli sport invitational which did not use GotSoccer and awarded them 0 points. All of their points are strictly from when they played up last spring in league play. The EDP Cup fall points haven’t been awarded yet. Therefore they have a way lower point total just because they didn’t play in the correct tournaments for GotSoccer. That’s why you see them down at 15.
For another example: A team like NJ Premier who won a lower flight of the Lou Ramos Classic tournament received lots of points for that and in GotSoccer are currently ranked 7th. The points awarded don’t factor in the strength of opponents, just the level of the tournament. Lou Ramos is a higher end tournament so it awards more points. This year the tournament didn’t attract great competition, but the teams still got high point values.
The more accurate rankings would be Youth Soccer rankings. The website https://youthsoccerrankings.us uses an algorithm that takes into account the strength of each opponent played and the score, in every game played. GotSoccer has the example team NJ Premier ranked 7th due to points from Lou Ramos, while Youth Soccer rankings has them at 62. Youth Soccer is taking into account NJ Premiers state cup loss and their 3 losses to teams in league play already this fall, and the low point value of the teams they beat at Lou Ramos didn’t help them nearly as much as it did for GotSoccers point system. FA is currently listed as #1 in YSR with a score of 30.25. CSA Bergen would actually just bump them down and be #1 with a score of 30.63, but they are incorrectly listed as a u12 team.
A team like Union is ranked 2nd in GotSoccer because it collected lots of small point values last year playing up in many smaller 9v9 tournaments and winning and learning. Youth Soccer rankings has them at a very respectable, and more accurate, 7th when you take into account quality of opponents in each game on top of the results though.
