Wait are you saying a 2011 town team should beat the #1 Ranked 2010 team in the state? i don't get your point here? or was this to argue the belief they don't play anyone? very confused.

To me it seems that the Union coach vacated the highly competitive top bracket of their age group because his team cannot compete against those teams. Historically they have never beaten FA or Cedar Stars Bergen, so in order to sell the Kool Aid he played up against weak 2010 teams and started getting some wins making it look like his team was just too good to play in the 2011 age group. Unfortunately for them they ended up running into competitive 2010 teams recently and they couldn't hang.

I think it was more that they went to 9v9 a season early because there is a learning curve from 7v7 to 9v9 and they will be better prepared. No more build out line, extra players on the field, bigger field. Several teams at the 2011 age did it. Winning at 7v7 is meaningless.

Got it your point is that 2010 FA team is actually a weak 2010 team. Good to know

Reading comprehension is not your strength it seems that the OP said once they ran into competitive 2010 teams Union couldn't hang meaning FA and all the other 2010 teams that recently beat them...

Less space means the players have to be able to hang with physical pressure and be much better with the ball. In a 9v9 field the weaker players can hide, in a 7v7 they can't.

There is much less space at 9v9. Field barely gets any bigger and you add 4 more players. You can hide weaker players at 7v7 easier than 9v9. That’s my opinion.

Do you wonder why in Europe they play 7v7 until they are 12? To hide players? or maybe to develop them because in a smaller field with less space they will have to deal with many 1v1 situations but hey if your coach sold you the 9v9 kool aid there's no reasoning with you lol

They play 7v7 because obviously there is more time on the ball with less players on the field. No one sold me any kool aid on 9v9. I personally hate 9v9 and wish we didn't have to watch it for 2 years. It is ugly and crowded and not good soccer. I would gladly sign my kid up for 1 extra year of 7v7 and then move to 11 v 11 a year earlier. Fact remains I think its easier to hide someone in 7v7 then at 9v9.

                        7/7 v 9/9

I have watched a few 9v9's and I hate it. It seems to have devolved into a crowded kick and run scenario. I think various factors come into play: punting allowed, no breakout line, desire to get W's...

Regardless, I agree it's super crowded and doesn't lend itself to much running and positioning. I wish they kept it at 7v7 for another year or two. The only thing I like
about it is getting kids used to taking balls out of the air finally. Seems that all these kids need to refine the first touch, it's a big difference maker at this level.

What about a scenario where U11s keep the 7v7 but play on the bigger 9v9 pitch?

I disagree, you can put a less athletic player on the wing or as forward in 9v9 and they won't hurt the team as much since there are more players to cover their mistakes. A weak defender or a weak wing/cm that can't defend or run will create opportunities for the other teams to score in 7v7...

7v7 still looks like baby soccer while 9v9 looks a lot more like a proper soccer match. A lot of the kids at this age can shoot from midfield and score at 7v7 and some still try to dribble through everyone due to the smaller field size without playing proper soccer as a team. That's not as easy on a 9v9 field and kids need to play more as a team and be more creative. Don't agree to have 10/11 year olds keep playing 7v7 on a tiny field for another year. Boring to watch.

The field only gets 10 yards longer, and 5 yards wider.. 5 yards of length on each side of midfield.... If kids can shoot from midfield at 7v7, they will at 9v9 as well. The increase in field size is so minimal.
