They want to get them signed before 16yrs old and they choose to go to college. If your kid wants to go to private HS or college don’t even bother trying out.

I love this ! That's what they do overseas. They actually take the time to develop the players because they can make a profit out of them by selling them. Nothing wrong with that, more players will have a chance to become pro and what kid wouldn't want to play in Europe?

This model will allow the Red Bulls system to have all the top youth prospects. CSA, PDA and all others will be SOL because they wont be able to promise a pro pathway.

Right. This will just enable them to bring in more out of state and country players like Barca Academy.

On paper you may be right but here is where it is too different in US. Let’s say your kid is 16 and an amazing player. Now comes the time to decide pro pathway or college. A very high number are going to choose college as a 100K+ investment over the USL 40K contract.

It already happens now to a degree as schools like Delbarton Benedict’s will give kids tuition to play soccer. Since they can’t play in the fall for club RB doesn’t take these kids. That’s why Benedicts kids all play for CSA. That wasn’t the case years ago.

Now RB is investing tens of thousands of dollars per year on kids and they want a return. A kid choosing to go to college gets them 0 ROI. Who wouldn’t choose going to play soccer at ND or Duke and graduate with a degree and have a 100k job in their back pocket by 28yr old rather than wash out of RBII at 24 with 30K.

You have no idea who you are talking to, what my background is, or who I know so don't make assumptions. This isn't like NYCFC trying to build a stadium in the city. This will happen.

Right that's why they pull these kids in early. Hopefully you know well before 24 that you aren't going to go further.

You are looking at it only from the perspective of a well off family who can afford to send their child to schools like that. Many families who have a top level player but aren't as well off, dont have the option to send their child to Duke and ND unless they get a full scholarship and those are extremely rare. Mens Division 1 soccer programs have 9 total full scholarships to offer/ divide out. They are bringing in 50% of their rosters from oversees and using a good chunk of scholarship money that way.

The RB barely ever produce any players sold to major European clubs I am sure with this model they will pump them out all over the top leagues. How many actual RB Academy players have been sold to top European clubs that you know of ? With this new facility and model they will be motivated to retain the players and make profit off them. Right now they dump kids every 3 months.

Your point brings up another question. Does that mean a team like RB will target these kids who don’t have means to go to school? Does that mean they are classifying kids on socioeconomic factors now?

Regardless of scholarship or not, top academy teams like CSA, PDA etc send dozens of players each year to top schools for soccer. If they get a scholarship great if it is just a vehicle to get in great too. In the end they can walk out of a school like Villanova with a finance degree and make 3 times as much by 26-27. If they are any good there are still avenues to peruse the dream as well, hence the USL2 etc.

Lastly let’s also realize that other than RB the average cost for soccer is 3-5K per year. Certainly a lot of money for a 10yr old already.

This is why RB will absorb all the top talents, free tuition, pro path, CSA/PDA/TSF will get all the crumbs..

If by crumbs you mean anyone but the top 5-10 kids in the state, then yes. The absolute best kids will be at MLS clubs.. There are just a few that really stand out in each age... players 10-30 are probably much more similar than you think. Its not like there are just 15 good players in the state and everyone else is garbage.

In NY… NYCFC will get the top kids and BW Gottschee, Met Oval and NYSC will get the rest. In PA, Philadelphia Union will get the top kids and Real and Delco + PA Classics will get the rest.

I would figure NYRB is losing money and wouldn't want the added construction debt, but here we are.
This could be media leverage by NYRB for other reasons, who knows? But I will believe it when the shovels go in the ground.
Maybe this training facility will have a something like a shed or treehouse 2-3 miles away that parents can watch games vs NYRB Academy teams.

Probably was told they couldn't go inside the training facility to watch their kid due to their covid protocols. I've seen many a parent standing on the utility boxes outside to try and sneak a peak.
