Besides for tournament flighting, the only clubs/coaches that are interested in this are points chasers. Parents love it because they can say their kid plays at "the top 07 team in NJ" or whatever. I get the allure of rankings to be able to see how one team might do against another, but as the poster above mentioned, the ranks don't capture everything. There are a lot of tournaments (and leagues) that aren't affiliated with gotsoccer.

As fun as it is to look up and see game histories, the actual ranking system is garbage and one of the worst things to happen to youth soccer. Teams start chasing points, parents jump from club to club to be at "the best" team with no thought about the coach, situation and culture theyre getting themselves into.

I think up until U12, looking at rankings is strictly for bragging rights. Parents probably shouldn't use it to decide on a team. If you think about it, a really good team likely means the club/coach is ruthless in their approach and will only play the best players. Although a high ranking team likely has good talent, your child may have a negative reaction if they get on these teams and don't get much playing, if any at all. Some kids may take this challenge and try to elevate their game while others get disheartened and quit. You know your child best and finding a right balance is important.

Who cares?!?!? GotSoccer Rankings are a joke and a ploy to take your Club's money. The more tournaments you enter and win, the better the ranking. You could go win every crap Tier III tournament in the region and be in the Top 5 in the US.
YouthSoccerRankings.US is a much much better system, so much so you can have a good idea of what the game outcome will be by goal differential.
GotSoccer Points, lol.

I totally agree but unfortunately at the older ages for the lesser known clubs, if you aren't in the rankings, you won't get into to better tournaments- no matter how good the team is. It's all about the money, kind of sickening-

As long as you are in a top div and doing well against good teams you should "get in". These people might say they are elite but reality is they want money.
