My son's U14 travel soccer coach asked each player which position they wanted to play right before a scrimmage. My son's response was "I don't care, I'll play any position."

Originally posted by Unregistered View Postdepends on the coach. Some like the confidence and team first attitude of saying i'll play anywhere. SOme prefer the kid be more vocal and self advocate. Personally, as long as the on field effort is high, i would be happy with the former. Being willing to play anywhere coach wants and putting max effort is great.

I think it's a great response. Kids should be playing anywhere anyway, at least a little. The thing is....play.

Alphonso Davies was a forward winger in MLS. Went to Bayern, they asked him to play left back. You think he said no? No, he became one of the world's best left backs.

If it was the latter, then the player probably knew they couldn't play the other position well and may not get good reviews. I guess either way, it exposed the player's limitations. It goes to show players should not be one dimensional, especially at a young age.
