i mean if they tell you "your child is being placed on our top ecnl team" and then they say actually we meant the regional one, that's misleading.

If they say "your child is the most talented player we have seen and we really want her to be a focal point" and then she's playing 20 minutes per game, that would be misleading as well.

I think we can both agree that Every parent needs to be real cognizant of their kids abilities.
Now this is no different than kids literally being given a chance to play a pro sport. Many many many get the chance and fail.

I think Brad Pitt said it best in the real life movie "moneyball" as hes talking to baseball recruiters.

You really don't know how the kid is going to be in the big leagues until you put them out there. You sink or you swim.

As horrible as this is, unless a parent knows a coach or DOC well and trusts that person, why would anyone be surprised if they get misled? I'm sure there are a good # of good honest people in this space but there are also a ton of liars and cheats.

A few years ago, I knew a guy whose kid made a big club's A team. The coach made a big deal that the roster was a little big because they didn't want to dilute things with a B team so I think all parents signed on knowing that each kid on average would get ~ 50% minutes. Then, in the second week or so of the actual season, more kids that nobody knew of joined the team so average minutes went down and/or not everyone dressed for every game. The parents of the kids that got pushed aside were furious but the club waffled for a month or so and eventually agreed to have a B team in the spring. The guy I know had his kid stay through the spring and then never went back.

A year or two later, the same club changed the names of its teams. Before the change, all A teams were called a certain color and all the B teams were called a different color. Around the time of the name changes, a friend's kid was offered a spot on the "A team color" team so my friend presumed his kid made the A team (they decided not to join in the end). When the actual season started, it became obvious that the "A team color" team was actually the B team and the A team's name was changed to "pre-DA" or "pre-academy" or something like that. My friend figured this out and I don't think he'll ever have his kid play there due to the trickery/dishonesty.

As horrible as this is, unless a parent knows a coach or DOC well and trusts that person, why would anyone be surprised if they get misled? I'm sure there are a good # of good honest people in this space but there are also a ton of liars and cheats.

I have never heard of the “switch the team names” trick but that is amazing. How these people look themselves in the mirror, I have no idea.

I think this is fairly typical around U12 when teams are gearing up for the switch to the then-DA as well as ECNL. You need to be aware of the team name changes and what they mean. There could be, for example, a GAL team, USYS, and then an EDP team at a club (a, b, and c teams). For a club that uses colors like CSA, you have to be careful with the green/white designations in context with the year your kid is. Parents need to educate themselves before agreeing to anything. Don't sign on the dotted line without a specific offer from a specific team and coach. Even then, be very clear on what that signature means/what the offer is for. Very often the club is free to move you off that team for any reason. You have to understand what the possibilities are by talking to the coach, parents, etc.

Not really. PDA is a club that does not really “steal” because people gravitate there. There is a mix of decent coaches at PDA. Perhaps not as great technically as boutique clubs, but strong in terms of “coaching” for self motivation.

Not this is about World Class. They have 3 or 4 teams per age group and most of the girls there come from different clubs. They even take whole teams from other clubs. Only the first team has good training and good competition but they sell the club to new recruits as if they were all getting the best of the best.

Also, give us an example of a "whole" team besides the 2008 team. That means your kid is a 2008 who was replaced and you're bitter. see how I did that. Now I can even tell who you are, would you like me to do that too?

well the poster is correct. if you are specifically referencing that move then it is easy to tell your age group. world class is actually a highly ethical and very warm club if you must know. you must not know ANYTHING about the backdrop at the top ECNL clubs in the tri-state. world class is like the jimmy carter of ecnl clubs versus cfc, susa, pda….practically the nixon, trump and clinton of ecnl clubs.
