    New to club soccer

    Hello,
2019-2020 was my kid’s first year playing for an elite club. Not looking for club bashing..but for context, the club is highly ranked in the state, charges 3kish. I haven’t heard anything about next season plans or what is happening this summer- besides training starts officially the 22nd. Is this for next season? Are we still in 19-20? If someone wanted to change clubs... is it all word of mouth or what? When would try outs be?

Don't know how old your kid is, but general impression is if you find a coach you and your kid likes plus good teammates, then not work leaving unless they need to jump to a team that gets in front of more college coaches.

I don't think anyone has any idea what is happening on the 22nd except small group training is allowed. Based on the carding situation, not sure it could be 19-20 unless there is an extension.

Tryouts are probably going to be announced soon for all clubs and have already been for a few. It's going to be crazy.

If there hasn’t been any communication from the club, that should tell you something about them

If you are interested in another club, contact them and they’ll arrange a tryout

As I understand it, all leagues have cancelled the spring season. Teams that are practicing 6/22 and onward are doing just because they can and/or to prep for summer tournaments/leagues. Those would usually be a separate fee from your 19/20 tuition.

I imagine it will vary by club, but for my son the current plan for his club is training starting June 22 running through July 31 is still 2019-2020 “season”... but it will only be some version of practice determined by the state guidelines. No anticipation of games. The 2020-2021 season will start around mid august. Anything beyond that is really out of everyone’s hands at this point.

Most clubs are posting publicly for tryouts... just visit any club website....but because of the timing/situation, most teams are pretty much firm at this point....They all made offers to current players weeks or months ago. they also made offers to new players that they already had in the ID system. I imagine most have left a spot at the top level, but most tryouts are mostly for the “b” and “c” teams.

Made offers to current players? Does this mean teams had you commit to next season already? With payment?

Yes... didn’t have to make full payment though.

Has the state spring cup been canceled? There is no information on nj soccer.

It is safe/realistic to assume everything is cancelled at this point even if they lack an announcement... based on the numerous return to play guidelines (even leaving wiggle room) that all have “phases” done in multi-week intervals, the best case scenario would be a tournament in late July, but that would take a lot to happen and given its summer and the new season starting August... we probably see scrimmages... maybe. All the delayed/lack of communication is 50% they rightfully don’t know what to and 50% they don’t/can’t/won’t give refunds.
