My D's HS team had a kid who was 4ft10in as a freshman. Decent skills but not so fast, not so strong, often overpowered and was not much an impact player. Fast forward to senior year, she was now 5ft5in, skilled, fast and powerful. And more importantly, confident and impactful as a player on the field. All-County recognition and committed to a strong D3 soccer program.

2 inches per year definitely not unheard of. Clearly she didn't hit puberty until she was a freshman. Go through the NJ All-County lists and see if you can figure out who it is.

My lack of history with soccer showing up.

He actually was. He played for the youth team of Newells Old Boys and at 12 or 13 Barcelona moved him and his father to Barcelona.

This thread is solely a function of pay to play, which has warped every parent’s ability to analyze their own kids objectively and has absolutely destroyed US youth soccer as a result. I pay so my kid deserves what every other kid deserves and I am the consumer so I can complain to the club when I don’t like how much playing time my kid gets or the position they play or the coach doesn’t like my kid...I have seen it everywhere. It is to the point that I don’t even enjoy being in the club environment anymore. I have one child that is outstanding and he/she deserves everything he/she gets and all of the opportunities he/she gets over other players less talented are warranted and I have another child who is mediocre at best and it sickens me when he/she gets opportunities over better kids or kids with more promise because he/she doesn’t deserve it. There are no blinders on. If a kid is on his or her 3rd club in 5 years and is constantly blaming someone else for the kid’s problems As the parents search for the holy grail that will grant eternal soccer life and greatness...well I would say it is time to look in the mirror and realize it isn’t coming. Neither one of my kids can play an instrument or sing if their lives depended on it...guess what? They stay out of the goddamn band and school chorus.

I realize it is only for parents who can afford to pay (and unfortunately or fortunately, many other opportunities in this country come to children of parents who can pay - whether it be piano/violin/vocals etc classes, academic tutoring, private club based sport, private universities...). Too bad that most of the posts are just about trashing some clubs or teams. I agree with you whole heartedly that the kids with natural talent should get opportunities. A philosopher once asked the question - is there is only one tennis court, then who should get the opportunity to use it -- the two richest persons in the country, two Nobel-prize winning scientists, two top-ranked tennis players, or two kids very interested in tennis?

Which league governs the tennis competitions in that town? Only tennis players that are affiliated with the "Elite Club Tennis League" should get to use it because they're the best and anyone who works with a different Tennis Academy League sucks and they should get rid of that league and if those players cant play tennis then f-ck them because then that way everyone knows my kid is in the best league.

Or maybe everyone would be better off if they just blow up the goddamn tennis court so no one can use it.

I think the person who played a sport at a major d1 school should be able to use the tennis court. They weren’t very good either relative to the studs that they played with. They were just a pretty good athlete who played a couple sports right around a d1 level, most likely tennis. They were nothing special at all relative to gifted athletes. Those kids were always good. Period end of story.

My daughter plays for PDA, they are for real. Very Strong team on the 9v9 field . I will be intrigued to see how they play on the bigger field

Looking at the 08 ECNL RL A scores, anyone know what was up with the two FC bucks PDA blue games? Blue drew 1-1 the first game but won the second match 7-2. That’s a big difference.

A lot of times, clubs have some of their end-of-the-bench ECNL players play with their ECRL teams to get playing time. Maybe in the first game Bucks had some of those players? Or second game PDA had some?
