Which means new players in and get starting spots, last year players will get benched, players from 2 years in will get pushed down to B team. Players 3 years in will get benched on B team. Etc.. Its like musical chairs

Why does this happen? Is it a physical/athletic thing or are kids not progressing/developing at the right pace? Which on the progression point can be partially attributed to the training they are receiving. Meaning, it’s almost a partial slap in the face to the trainer bringing in new players if the kids they are currently developing aren’t progressing.

I agree with many of the posts here..MF girls program has no real structure ..no office or administrator, rented practice field (which can not support the amount of teams - hence 2X week), rely on ECNL to draw so no real need to develop any marginal players even if paying same $$.

...MF draw for me was the ECNL and looking back I should have known better after DB told me "once they get to high school all the best girls want to come here to play in the ECNL "....which foreshadowed the way they operate. Big number of girls at 07,06,05...but always with idea that better players will be there later on as the only other ECNL club in NJ...so only really interested in developing the best or top 4-5-6 on each team. So agree that for the top few at each age group MF is/was a good fit. But not for any others ..many of whom simply had not grown yet (but also see this at other clubs as well...I believe the level of physical play in youth soccer takes many of the more naturally talented girls out of the game)..having coaches telling girls under 14 that they are too small to play in ECNL is crazy (have they looked at the USWNT..)

Lower teams (at time NPL) DB & Jordan have little to no interest in (practice on small area of field, rarely get use of a goal, small sided scrimmages shooting on tiny pop up nets...teaching girls to hold off defenders to receive ball with back to goal...etc)..playing ECNL girls down and giving them full minutes in meaningless games....rostering 24-28...having Matchfit Monclair girls play for both NPL & Montclair...entering teams into EDP league for extra playing time to "develop" players while in reality bring down 6-10 ECNL to play in games so they could be rostered for State Cup …

Style of play is a factor in developing ...sitting back playing defence at the younger ages does not foster long term development or the passing skills needed to play at the next level....those born with natural ability, touch, and athletic makeup will overcome poor coaching/training in many cases but for the ones on the bubble or even the ones who will not play in college but are at a club to get better.... it hurts them.

Personally my daughter got more tentative, more defensive minded, and a slower passer/thinker for her time at MF...so we left...she is young and I have no illusions of national team or free college but she went there loving the game and came out almost hating it!

The grass is not always greener....but for $$$ you do expect some level of care for all the players you place in your club.

Having also done some coaching...I see way too many parents thinking scholarship at way too early an age...let them have fun and enjoy playing ..once everyone is grown and in high school you can start that process if she is truly talented.

FYI - know that both my spouse & I played sports in D1 schools so know how truly difficult it is to get that full ride and how few times that great 11,12,13 year old player is the one.
