Surely if a smart kid knows how to switch the field like Bruno (ManU4Life) and the opponent is sleeping or not tracking or over pursuing that’s their problemo, no? Pls educate me.
To me it's having your keeper punt or kick to mid no matter what (i.e. not building from the back). If a coach does this and relies on his kids being bigger and faster while using subs to keep the press going irregularly, then that's kick and run. Usually there is no strategy except overpowering and outpacing the other team and not bothering to string passes together. This doesn't require any soccer IQ from either the coach or the players. Is there a time and a place to play direct from the keeper, yes, but not every single play.

Thank you. I believe in playing from the back and having a smart midfielder with eyes behind their head to switch the field at the right time! Time to leave this thread!!!

Unfortunately we experienced this style of play way too often at the GDA. Even though the players would practice it in games it was all punts, long balls to the corner, not that much if ever backwards passing etc. It was weird as they preached you should play a certain way but the games were exactly the opposite.

Coming from an STA parent, we’re just relieved he’s gone. His time here was a train wreck. And it sounds like it was just more of the same from this guy.

I hope, for the sake of the girls he convinces to sign up, that this new club works out. If it doesn’t though, there’s no one left for him and his followers to blame.

You’re complaining there wasn’t enough backwards passing?! 😂

Not the OP but blindly running forward towards the opposing net every time is exactly the issue. I've seen it a million times with similar outcomes depending on the opposition. Playing against a bad team this strategy is golden. Hat tricks for everyone. Against a better team (or even a few bigger/faster players at key positions) then you'll see a million unnecessary turnovers and if the opposing team can actually play soccer (will make your kids team run around like chickens).

Passing back (even to the keeper (shocking)), switching the field, making moves and getting rid of the ball, etc. is all part of actually playing the game as opposed to trying to mow people down every single game.

Just watch the pda vs Barca game from ICC.

One team is press plus kick and run. One team is pass and build. If you can figure out which is which, you learned something.

Kick and run to me means either the goalie punting or it’s the backline players always launching the ball to bypass midfield and having 5 players pressing up top to run onto it. It’s not playing through lines just smash and run on while opposing teams players are facing their own goal, like it’s a kickoff. Experienced this many times playing world class fc teams in particular.

Can’t say that I agree about WCFC but when our SJEB teams play CSA its all kick and run. Must say they beat us but do not play a particularly pleasing brand of football. Classic example of power and athleticism beating better trained and possession style teams. It will catch up eventually.

Yes absolutely love the way sjeb trains and plays. My daughter has played for a few different clubs and sjeb is the only one that actually trained to play the right way. Go watch them train. You will come away impressed. Don’t listen to the club bathers on here.

The training is ultimately the deciding factor in how the team plays, we might not always win when we play other teams (STA, CSA etc) but I know the girls are learning and playing the game correctly unlike other clubs that are just focused on winning.

I'm sorry, but the few times we faced SJEB, they were nothing but rugby style kick and run...trainings might look nice, but they don't employ any skills learned there in games.

Exactly. It’s a different social climate than decades past, and coaches have to change. Those who cant adapt are going to have problems.

If you are winning you are playing the game correctly. Although I like Spain's/Barca's posession game, it is by no means the only right way to play. Look at Atletico's game, I find it completely ugly, but can't deny its effectiveness. So, that's the right way to play too.

Playing the game correctly is understanding the game. A good coach should be able to adjust hi/her tactics if the game is not going his/her way, or if the players are not suited for a particular style of soccer.
