As pointed out above, why shouldn't they have lost? Looks like two pretty even teams based on RPI. Game stats (which I understand can be misleading) look virtually identical. UConn looks to have had competitive games against P4/top-25 teams all year long and won their conference, a conference who always sends an at-large team or two every year so they traditionally are more competitive than the remaining non-P4s

I guess I can understand your angst if you are a fan of Rutgers, but this narrative they lost to the Little Sisters School for the Blind is a bit off the mark.

3 years in a row 1 and done. Brown, Columbia, and UCONN. My narrative is they need to be better as a Big 10 school. Your narrative is "its ok sweetie, UCONN had a good year so its OK to lose to them"

Actually, I don't really have a narrative and don't really care, TBH. I have friends on both teams and am very familiar with them, having seem them both play often enough over the years (including a few times each this year), so I knew this would be a good game. My only point is the narrative that UConn was an easy dub is just flat out wrong.

You may now get back to your Monday morning outrage unfettered.

The experts agree calling the game a major upset. Rutgers should not be losing to UConn in the NCAA Tournament

NCAA Women’s Soccer: UConn Upsets 6-Seed Rutgers, Advances!

          By Sportsdesk, 11/17/2024

The UConn women's soccer team pulled off a major upset by defeating 6-seed Rutgers 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies scored two quick goals in the first half and defended their lead after Rutgers managed to score in the 70th minute. This victory marked UConn as one of only five teams to win in the opening round, while all other higher seeds advanced. Kaitlyn Mahoney's key save early in the match set the tone for UConn's defensive efforts, ultimately leading to their triumph.
          By the Numbers
          • UConn scored two goals in just six minutes.
          • Kaitlyn Mahoney made a crucial save on a point-blank shot in the first half.
Yes, But Despite the win, the Huskies face a formidable challenge ahead against Stanford, the 3-seed and previous national runner-up, which could shift the narrative of the tournament into a more difficult phase.
          State of Play
          • UConn advances to face Stanford in the next round, who recently won 5-0 against UC Santa Barbara.
          • Stanford's recent performance has been mixed, with a 3-3-1 record in their last seven matches.
What's NextLooking ahead, UConn will prepare for a tough matchup against Stanford, where they will aim to leverage their recent momentum and the historical advantage they hold in postseason play against the Cardinal.
Bottom LineUConn's victory over Rutgers is a testament to their resilience and skill, but facing Stanford will require them to elevate their game significantly to maintain their tournament momentum.

            Cool

The "expert" I follow had Rutgers as a bubble team (who they marked as "IN"), showed the xG virtually the same in the game. They also noted before the game it was a tough draw for them (even though the same person had UConn as "OUT" before they upset Georgetown).

If it wasn't for Bodmer, very good chance Rutgers doesn't even make the tournament at all. Let's not go down the road thinking Rutgers is the second coming...

Article you linked clearly just read stats and seedings so take it with a grain of salt. And, to be clear, I've said I haven't seen the game yet, either, so I'm doing the same (just not so vehemently stating it).

You may want to start arguing with someone else because, again, I really don't care and I'll just go into troll mode ;-)

one has to admit, doesn't look good to be 3 years in a row 1 and done to ---- Brown, Columbia, and UConn
              that is not too elite

The problem is you have an inflated view of the program. Both Brown and Columbia had higher RPIs when they played Rutgers. UConn just a few placed behind.

Maybe some would be happier if you accepted where the program is, and not what you hope it to be?
