Lack of regard for girls soccer

Why is it that a HS treats girls soccer differently than boys soccer? For example, why do the boys get a coach who is knowledgeable about soccer while the girls get a coach who is not? The girls team at our school fell short on important occasions and, ultimately, poor coaching cost them. There are assistant coaches who seem to know soccer but the head coach doesn’t listen to them. This was my daughter’s last year and 2nd year with the head coach. The general consensus among the team and assistant coaches is that the head coach does not know what he is doing. It’s a real disservice to female soccer players. Why is this acceptable?

It’s the opposite at my daughter’s school. So it all depends. Why don’t you coach? The pay and position makes it high in demand.

Let’s be completely honest. While the boys side produces many less “elite” players it’s still way above the girls product. Even elite girls have to scrimmage two and three ages below them to make it a game when playing boys. It’s not the same and that ok but that likely doesn’t help attract good coaches.

If you think it is bad now, wait 5-10 years. Less people are coaching HS Sports and many of the good ones stop coaching once they start a family of their own. I am sure some schools will be forced to cut their programs because of the lack of coaches in all sports.

Every school has a gym teacher.

I am glad you are going to step in and take charge. We really need more knowledgeable people to get out there and assist. I know it's not a lot of money and probably not worth the time, strictly from a financial standpoint. But your offer to get in there and really move the game forward is so very welcome.

              Thank you!!

You’re making a general statement based on your crappy/specific experience. Not the case at my daughters school.
