This has probably been discussed to death but currently U14 team with 18 rostered, everyone is committed so pretty much 18 at every game. Except for a few positions where player stays on full time, rest of kids splitting half time. Is this normal, should we be satisfied with this? Came from a team where roster was not as big so most played 75% except maybe some low performers. Just feels like half a game a week isn't worth it but also see other teams all have a lot of players too so wonder what is the norm.

The ECNL, RL and GA leagues have rules for subbing which make it really hard to be fair. Sucks for developing the entire team. The starters are the only ones benefitting with these rules and maybe the first two subs in.

Our U16 team has 20. Last year we had 18. Last season, the CBs played entire game and the remainder of team got anywhere from 50-75% per game and that carried. My kid was in the 50-75%. Some games she got 50%, others 75% and maybe 1-2 played the entire game. Our coach is pretty good with subbing. Will see what this year brings.

Coach decided to be a DICK and play my kid less than 10 min in a half. She went to Porto John at the half and he never saw her again. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Realistically for many clubs that don’t have a pipeline of players banging to come, you have a choice as a coach to play the “best” and deal with attrition later on. It’s a crap shoot. Not play everyone a decent time and they leave without players coming to the club regularly. Likewise if you don’t play the best all of the time, those players leave. PDA Blue has people lined up ready to give a check as soon as a spot opens. But for +90% of clubs especially at older age groups, the pipeline drys up and you are forced to juggle between playing and competing. It’s a different animal to tackle across al age groups and genders.

As long as you are averaging 50%-60%, AND you are developing in practices, then I think it is fine. My D is the first sub in, and gets a lot of playing time. People on the low end might only get 20 minutes out of 60 in a tournament final, but might get 45 out of 70 in a easier game.
