Why do coaches have players scrimmage for more than half the practice?

I think it's lazy coaching and gives them a chance to check their phone and chat with other coaches/players. I don't think any parent should accept that as an appropriate level of coaching given what most of us pay for youth soccer.

If you look at any training session outside of US and the methodology emphasized by US Soccer, they all state to play for roughly 50% of practice to put into play what is worked on prior. Most of these kids aren’t at the park playing pickup or anything like that. They should scrimmage more and the scrimmage is used as a learning environment.
