    Lazy Goalkeepers

What do you do about GK that aren’t trying hard in practice. Minimal effort to save ball, lazy recovery, little to no outside training?

Is it up to coach or parent to get them going? As a parent I would ensure my kid is working their hardest in practice and pushing themselves to be better, if the GK is going to be lazy it won’t make them or the players around them better. Every shot should be an attempt at a save or attack. Don’t let players shoot freely anywhere with idea they can make it bc you won’t try to save it. That doesn’t help anyone. I see some GKs at practice literally fight to save everything and are pissed when a shot gets through.

    It’s a mindset.

Not everyone cares in the same way. Like you said. It’s the mindset. It’s the clubs fault for taking such a lazy goalie. Lazy goalies should play MOSA.

Doesn't this apply to every player, not just GKs? Or are you the parent of a GK not getting the minutes you think they deserve?

          i thought it was rhetorical.

Nobody can make anyone do anything they don't want to. Kid don't want to work, coach can't make them nor can the parents.

Lazy fat parents, sitting in lazy chairs, calling other kids lazy. Lazy mentality.

But seriously keepers need to be aggressive and hungry. Can't teach that.

Think the point the OP is trying to make is a lazy player will only harm not help a team. Regardless of position though in their case pointed to GK. Coach responsibly to fix, parents have no right to say anything.

Depends on the situation. In a scrimmage for sure. During a 30 minute shooting drill with no defenders at U16 they can be as lazy as they want. Coaches just using them as dummies...The best GKs have good saving techniques but they get the best practice in GK specific training not by being a dartboard for a clown coach

Lazy field players as well. Missing team practices for who knows what anymore and parents cry when kids find the bench. If your kid wants to play lacrosse or hoops or get their nails done and miss team practice , it's fine they're just kids, but don't complain when Susie is on the bench

Well if YOU allowed your kid to pursue other things then it wouldn’t have a negative affect on me because we do.

                        selfish

The best GKs from experience are the ones training outside their academy or local/hs team. Have seen my share of lazy keepers, but they are usually younger and relegated to a position they never desired. It takes a certain mindset to be a GK and that mindset is in the minority.

Let me see your stupid ass dive on concrete or frozen ground for several hours, 4-5 days a week for a decade. Between the damage that does to the skeleton and tendons, think of what it does to the kid’s brain via shocks. I hope your kid becomes a goal keeper. Definately worth the reward to save every lousy shot.
