So we all see these “vote for my kid” player of the week things…but where’s the merit? Just trying to understand how it works if someone has insight. So aa far as I know: Player gets voted by another player on their team (their friend) and then it basically is a competition to see who (or who’s parents) have the most social media friends to give them click votes- correct? Or is there actual merit to it?

I would say usually at least those nominated had a good week. From there, it's a social media campaign.

Its meaningless fun for the parents of high school high school athletes. Its helps make parents feel proud. Also its marketing genius getting all those people to visit the advertised page to vote

Every single "award" from either the state, conference, or NJ.com is bull****. To many players with over inflated stats because they play in the worst conferences. One of the nominations for PotY in Ds conference looks great on paper with 32 goals 23 assists but against Ds team - who sucks 55 total goals in 19 games and sub .500 record and squeaked into playoffs - absolutely destroyed this players team 9-1. She wasn't even the one who scored or even assisted their lone goal. As for those conference all-stars, most are nothing more then coaches favorites being nominated and usually fight more for seniors to get the spots over better freshmen and sophomores.
If your kid is one of those ones who jumps up and down posts all over social media that they got a PotW award for scoring 5 goals against a team that lets up 8 per game then please do everyone a favor and just knee cap them.

Guarantee (1) that you have never won anything in your life, and (2) you are bitter that your daughter hasn't won any awards. Lighten up.

Hi, for the record, my child never got PoW. Also, you are wrong. The players are getting acknowledged for something they truly earned, not a participation ribbon (jackass) I am sure there are many outliers as the example you are talking about. However, there are more times than not, that a Player excelled, had a game or week that everything is going right for them. The PoW is about acknowledging that, it does not give an award and it's not an "all American" Stop being a fat loser.
