clubs wont let kids play up after this change anymore than it happens now. The 8/1-9/30 birthday kids will end up playing with kids a grade below. it's just swapping the trapped kids for this new group.

Agreed, I think for players in this age group who are already lower on the roster they will likely get pushed to the younger team. Its possible that they can play up but I’m sure the clubs will not let them unless they are on the top half of the new roster which will now include kids who are over a year older than them. They do have the option though whereas there is no option to play a year down. Clubs may grandfather kids in to let them stay with their teams at older ages especially outside of the most competitive leagues like mlsn and ecnl.

A 3rd or more can't play with their grade? A set moment in time ie Aug-Oct vs Oct-Dec does not directly translate into a 3rd of players. At worst it would be 1/4th but that isn't how the numbers actually work. June thru early Oct have the highest birth rates. Your math is wrong, your logic is wrong, and having to plead with a club/team to move up a year to stay with your class is wrong.

Clubs won't allow it simple because each age will be in the same situation. Clubs want age appropriate playing that way they get more players per age. If they start allowing players to play up and bump age appropriate players to the bench or B team those players will be looking to play somewhere else.

This is really hard to say, because right now kids have very little incentive to play up unless they aren't being challenged enough in their BY. If it changes to SY, they will have multiple reasons to push their club to play them up, if capable. In any case, even if none play up, it's not really a swap to go from, e.g., 100 trapped kids to 10. It will be a massive, massive improvement in terms of number of trapped kids across the country.

6 months to announce and prepare for a change like this is nothing. I would love for this to happen as my child is a December birthday, but unless I’m missing something, there does not appear to be anything credible out there.

Not following. By far the most common school cutoff in the US is Sep 1. That means Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec can't play with grade right now. 4/12 is a third by calendar. US birthrates for July, Aug, Sep are very slightly higher than other months, hardly worth factoring in, but let's do it anyway if you want to take issue with calling 32% "one third." The next most common school cutoff is Aug. 1. So add in that portion of Aug. birthdays to that group and you are well over one third. Add in Aug. birthdays who are redshirted in Sep. 1 states, which is more common than early starts. School cutoffs after Sep.1 are rare. The estimate that I've seen others make based on this puts the potentially trapped player population at around 40% of potential players.

Seems like the vote is a formality and this is a done deal.

MLS Next and NAL are not changing, I can tell you that. I dont care about rest of them.

Correct, MLS Next and NAL not changing. ECNL, GA, USYS and the rest of them will change starting the 25/26 season.

this is going to be even more of a **** show than it will be if different leagues adopt different age groupings
