So when can teams stop using the excuse their "best players were on vacation"

Someone asked and someone answered. I’d have to agree. A lot of the thoughts on a team are associated with their performance through early October.
As far as the end of the season I disagree. Public opinion is hard to sway when you do marginally better than another close team.

Still, overthinking it.

Guest players, playing up or down in tournaments, summer players, practice players, new rosters, vacations, other sports, camps, coaches experimenting.

Summer is a tryout and team thermometer. The variables above explain why. Saying a team is missing players because of vacation in the Summer doesn't sound like an excuse, but a reality.

Season ends in June and starts in September.

Month end August tournaments carries weight but for most kids that didn't participate in the Summer (because that happens too) are rusty. (That variable is across the board)
