Ok, partly true that not everyone is around for the summer, and a bunch of big name clubs either play summer games under a different name ("summer select" or things like that) or not at all, but some do not. If a team plays under its "real" name and they lose, some try and justify it by saying that they didnt have a full team (which is probably true, but neither did the other team). So when can they stop using that excuse? Labor day tournaments? The first week of the season (usually the weekend after labor day)? Or maybe mid August (there are some big tournaments in PA that are 1 or 2 weeks before labor day)

I guess the real question is "when does the season officially begin". I know some snobs only think their league games matter, but that is mostly because they are afraid to play outside their league

A little more dicey when you get to spring. Teams that go to Jeff Cup typically play FC Europa, others play PDA after…. I’d say the spring is more important how you finish, first fall games sets the tone, but how you finish out spring is a better judge of a team.

As far as the end of the season I disagree. Public opinion is hard to sway when you do marginally better than another close team.

Tournments are a chance to play other teams and practice. Try and move players around to see what works and what does not. Great if we win but fine if we don’t.

Let the kids and families go on vacation in the summer. Summer tournaments are like pre-season games. No national championship on the line losing all summer games. An opportunity to bring in guest players and play all kids who show up equal minutes. When league season starts up in the Fall, that's when the games matter.
I'm guessing the last tournament of the summer before league season starts, is when a coach cares and is locking in the starters.

Spirit tournament and everything after. Summer doesn’t count for anything more than getting reps and fitting some games in. Competition is either too weak or super loaded. If it meant something the super team players would just play with their teams. But they don’t, so I restate. Summer doesn’t matter.
