There’s a huge gap difference between expectations and reality for recruits during the recruitment process. The expectation is to Play NCAA D1 at an elite school. That’s fine, you should want the best. But the reality is most of you will not play NCAA D1 soccer.

1% of you will play NCAA D1 Power 4 or at an elite D1 mid-major.
1% of you will play at a lower tier mid-major D1.
5%+ of you will play D2, D3, NAIA & JC

Please make sure to cast a wide net and consider ALL your options.

I disagree regarding casting a wide net. Be more targeted about where you want to go to college and realistic about whether you can play soccer at the colleges you actually want to go to. HUGE difference between going to a D1 Power 4 school and a Junior college, and if you have schools from both of these pools in your target list, you are casting too wide a net.

I think this post is more about being realistic about college soccer. There are a lot of average clubs playing in club v. club leagues that are promising athletes access to D1 recruiting when the reality is they shouldn't even promise D3 recruiting. Most soccer players will never play at any college, so maybe focus on just letting your kid enjoy the sport they love.

Opportunity to be seen is already a big help, playing next to like minded players is another plus (strong academics and soccer abilities and wants to play in college), and recognizable club name is the icing on the cake. Then rest is up to the player.

College soccer is not same as football conferences, most SEC area colleges don’t have a program, USC doesn’t have men’s soccer. choose colleges on academics first, then see if there’s a soccer match in there.
