Pay to play model will never work which is why US women’s soccer will fall behind now that the rest of the world decided to invest in the women’s game. Rich girls are not the best athletes, they simply get the best training. To remain great in context of world soccer, we need our most athletic girls to get the best training.

Why does us women's soccer have to be #1? How is it that other countries are getting greater participation rates and improving? Too many sports in united states. So many girls playing hoops, softball, lacrosse. Somewhere in those sports is a likely soccer superstar but too many sports. Other countries it's only soccer

We have 342m people, Sweden has 10.7m, Netherlands 17.7m, Spain has 47.5m. Even with other sports we should be fine based on the player pool. The root of the problem is the youth $y$tem.

If anyone thinks it's easy to find the 15 best players out of 342mm, good luck. No matter the youth system, it's not possible to always get it right, especially in soccer. Baseball , basketball, NFL qb so much easier to measure vs vision on field, passing, receiving every play on the ball is a unique set of circumstances vs different styles of play/ defenders, etc

It is not finding, it is coaching, just check what Spaniards did in last 10-15 years. Proper coaching from an early age, produced results at older ages.
