Thanks for the link. It def helps. I wonder if they truly will go to grade in school over birth year. Seems like it makes more sense.

Doubt they'd go to grade, but instead they'd go to Aug 1 cut-off, which is what was in place before USSF blew everything up with GDA.

They should go back to that. Because it sucks for the players who are trapped and can’t play for a season.

It’s a great way for clubs to take advantage and charge parents full season!!

How can we get them to change it back?

Do you think us soccer would change the cutoff to August to avoid trap players?

it doesnt avoid trap players that way. Right now the only players that should be "trapped" players in NJ are October, November and December kids. Kids get left back, parents keep their kids back. Different states and counties have different start dates for school. We know tons of July kids that are a grade behind our september daughter. If your kid plays middle school soccer they will play that instead of the fall seson with club team. its a few weeks and then back to normal during the winter.

The birth year makes so much more sense and is so much better than the old August 1st cutoff date. calendar year is on par with how everyone else in the rest of the world does it.

especially now a days where every parent thinks their kid is Messi...or Lebron...or Trout...and is keeping them back academically a year to gain an athletic advantage. "reclass" they call it now.

The rest of the world doesn’t have high school or college soccer, so birth year makes some sense. In the US, Aug 1 cutoff makes far more sense for players who play high school and college soccer.

It doesn’t eliminate trapped players, but it makes for far fewer trapped players than birth year.

”keeping kids back” has nothing to do with club soccer, only school soccer.
