Is it common that one coach coaches 3 teams at the same time?

Is coaching 3 teams too much for one coach and is a concern?

They will run into conflicts especially if all three teams are in the same tournament so you will likely have coaches fill in when needed. If you are there gor the coach but he/she won’t be coaching everything, it could be a concern if you don’t like the coach filling in.

not at all but there could be issues to watch for
      - is each team getting their own practices or are they combined …. If combined can the coach give attention and appropriately train or is it chaos
      - is the coach late to practices/games warm up/game
      - is the coach being pulled in different directions when it’s your child’s team time
      - hows the communication? Are practices and games clear and set? Tournaments? Overall expectations
-can you talk to the coach and have access to touch base?

Well said. Think of it simply… the more on your plate the less you can focus on any one thing. So if you are spread thin then so is your attention, focus, efforts and overall product you are paying for.

Unless you play for Robbie at CAT, that guy can coach ten different teams!! Don’t worry just take his word for it! He’ll take your kids to California and get destroyed 5-0 when the team hasn’t won a game all spring!

Our experience is some times the coach cannot come to the game and assign a temp coach for the game, and sometimes the practice needs to be rescheduled or even canceled.
one thing I am not sure is good or bad, sometimes the coach can ask two of his teams to play informal games, which means the practice is combined.

Doesn't RT have five or six teams?

I feel the informal games are better than the practice but the two teams are at different ages

Probably. If you are the youngest team/not an A team/least talented team, you will have fill-in coaches the most.

It’s fairly common. I wouldn’t be especially concerned about it unless your child is playing on a lower level team than the coach’s other teams. In the event of conflict, coach will usually go with higher level team. However, other than tournaments, coaches we know with multiple teams have been able to make the schedule work. The positive of a coach having both A and B teams in a birth year is they have visibility to all the kids and there may be more opportunity to move up.

Currently experiencing that with my daughter’s team. Coach only focuses on one team. And he could care less about the others. It’s obvious to everyone. Club won’t do anything. So if you’re a regular on this site you know what club.

Hopefully you are moving her to a new team next year and getting your money’s worth elsewhere

Totally common. You can’t expect coaches to drive to a 1.5
hour practice and then go right home. I am sure most people have car pools so they do not have to drive both ways every practice. In clubs that belong in club v club leagues, the games are usually scheduled back to back to back so coaches can do multiple games. For other clubs, sometimes the coaches are only for weekday practices and parents do the games. Even if they have to be at 3 games a weekend, it can be done with some planning. It’s easy to coach 2 or 3 home games in the same weekend (my kids have weekends with more than 1 game), it can get tricky with 3 away games. As for tournaments, they usually schedule things to make it easier for coaches. Like most of the time same gender teams that are a year apart do not play at the same time.

It's common have a coach lead to to three teams for a club.

A few years ago this happened with my daughter's coach. She was on the youngest team coached and her team was consistently having other coaches fill in at games and tournaments. They went to their first and only away tournament and her coach didn't come with the team or make it to any of their games. It was really disheartening for the team. I think this works for a team only if they are the oldest team coached or perhaps the highest level coached if the teams are at different levels. For the younger or lower level teams it can suck.
