Where to find a good town coach?

I see a lot of posts on here complaining about academies costs and lack of quality coaching. Well here’s a few names I know off the top of my head doing coaching work outside of “academies” that are worth taking a look at in Monmouth County:

Jonathan Schmid- Wall (Former collegiate player Monmouth Univeristy)
Connor Hansen- Wall (Former collegiate player Stockton University
Alyssa Vetrano- Ocean (Former collegiate player Goldey Beacom college)
Taylor Rudd- Ocean (Former collegiate player Montclair State University)
Lucas Aquino- Ocean (Former collegiate player Brookdale Comminity College)
Rob Vetrano- Ocean (Former collegiate player Rosemont College)
Lauren Coletti- Monmouth United (Former collegiate player Rowan University)
George Kavarakas- NJ Blaze (Former collegiate player Georgian Court University)
Yousef Elhusseini- Old Bridge (Former college player Caldwell College)
Kaushik Dhanyamraju- Manalapan (Former collegiate player Rosemont College)

Former collegiate player is no guarantee of quality coaching abilities.

If I knew all their coaching licenses I’d post them. I said they’re worth taking a look at. Do whatever you want with the information lol

The difference is you can tell quickly and you don’t have a 12 month contract with a May 1 stipulation. On a separate note, one of the best coaches my kids worked with was a former collegiate player. Had a full ride and one of her majors was coaching. What an amazing experience— ultimately she got married and moved away. She’s still like family. So, there are good people out there.

former collegiate players mean nothing. In our experience they exhibit the same piss poor coaching tendencies that they’ve been exposed too, and feel entitled because they played at the college level. Let us know what their education level is and their coaching licenses.

They probably realized you were a douche and wanted you to go away

Agreed. I am a former college player who competed in a DII Final Four, and I was not a good coach when my daughter entered a town program. I'd like to think I was mature enough to admit it, and just became a fan.

None of the schools listed would blow anyone's socks off.

Well the thread said "good town coach". Being a college player at some bumfvck college doesn't make you a "good" coach. Better than a dad who grew up playing basketball, sure...but there's a long way from that to "good".

Doesn’t determine how great a coach is. My son had a coach who now has his B license (C at the time), never played at a semi high level and was one of the worst coaches we’ve had development wise. Seemed as if he was still learning the sport and didn’t have a whole lot of experience. A lot of clubs don’t pay more based on your license so some coaches don’t make it a requirement to get a higher license.

Well you didn’t look very hard, the following people from that list do in fact have a D or above: Jonathan Schmid has a C license, Rob Vetrano has a D license, George Kavarakas has a D license, and Kaushik Dhanyamraju has a D license.

Trainer Nicole at freehold (under bob smith academy) is excellent. She coaches and trains the 2015 and 2013 girls. 2015 are a top team.

and Dylan Smith at Freehold is also very good and coaches/trains the 2012 girls. He knows the game and teaches his teams to play the right way.
