Fun game, helps develop foot skills and playing in small spaces. More helpful to midfielders than most other positions.

Very few programs that actually teach futsal in NJ. Playing pick up soccer on wooden floor is not futsal.

Agree, real futsal is great for ball control and speed of play while soccer on a basketball court is a mess.

Agree with above. If you are actually playing Futsal it’s great for speed of play, decision making and working on combination passing. Too many teams are like bad pick up basketball games though. One kid tries to dribble the whole length and doesn’t pass at all. Not exclusive to younger ages either. If you go the futsal route, be sure to join a real futsal club that teaches the game. It should look more like a motion offense in basketball with constant movement and cuts from all players.

"...motion offense in basketball with constant movement and cuts from all players". This is a great analogy, thanks.

Why would soccer on a basketball court be a mess?

There is nothing inherent about playing on a basketball court that is significantly different from playing on a real futsal court. You can play terrible futsal just as easily as playing terrible soccer on a basketball court.

Great to practice foot skills, combination passing, passing accuracy, first touch, movement off the ball, speed of decision making in tight spaces. Many basics of soccer that young players don’t master/don’t need because of speed athleticism on a much larger fields are the focus on the small court.
Also personally improved by daughters shot to corners and I think the power of her shot. I don’t know if that’s a direct correlation or something that came with age.
