I'm thinking basketball. It's played in the winter during soccer's off-season. Lots of running, cutting, passing. Baseball is too slow. Football, lax schedules conflict. Am I missing any? Maybe tennis?

Do they have flag football in your area? I think it made a huge difference in my daughter's soccer. It's an explosive / reaction sport, lots of sprint & recovery and you have to be a little aggressive.

Flag football and basketball are great sport to pair with soccer. Another popular one as they get older is track and field because they are in opposite seasons (middle school/high school age)

Sure, timing wise basketball works best. Most soccer teams are much quieter in the winter with few games and lighter practice schedules. But in terms of the physicality basketball is not a good choice and is tough on the body. Ideally you want something that uses different muscle groups.
Besides, what matters most is what does your kid like to play most, not what fits a schedule
