    College Scholarships

    Bottom line > Scholarship Amounts

    Recruits:

When discussing scholarships and finances, ASK what the bottom line is.

    Example:
15k in scholarships at a 25k school leaves you with 10k to pay.

You’ll hear scholarship amounts/percentages but what’s the bottom line? Ask

    40 years > 4 years

Who has been posting all this recent half azz advice? Start with the $25K college which is hilarious. When did they last have a kid in school? More importantly schools will tell you what your annual nut will be in $, not percentages. Set up time to talk with a school's financial aid or bursar's office while your kid is talking to coaches.

I think the $25k is a example lol True the cost is $ but the students receiving financial aid is in percentage

No schools tell you what your net price will be. The final acceptance letter is rhe final but they rarely deviate from the offer unless there was something substantially different with your income. However most soccer families make too much to qualify for FA. Its athletic (not all) a.d merit (grades)

100% correct! Most recruits only hear the offer. $25k scholarship sounds fantastic, if the school costs $55k to attend, not so much!
$3k scholarship, sounds terrible, but not if the school costs $13k to attend. How much is left out of pocket is the number you need to know!

Other advice would be ask what the scholarship covers other than tuition fees R&B etc. if you move off campus will the scholarship cover rent etc. . There’s a lot extra costs on top.. Books alone could be hundreds a year. Ask for books, cost of living money, even Alston money too. There’s a lot more to the scholarship than tuition. Ask for it all. Can get up to 9000 extra/year. You can leave college making money.

Private schools cost at and over $65k

public schools have in and out of State tuition, $25k to 35k

This is soccer board, kids are getting all kinds of deals, partial ships, academic awards and financial need, all of this still factored

then there’s other stuff I won’t talk about because this Board is fun to read for its rumors and nonsense.

                examples of nonsense:
                1) NAL and teams
                2) ODP
                3) EDP and ECNL are ridiculous waste of money, no one here talks about that, and that’s the nonsense part of it.

The stupidity on this page is amazing, no one wants to do their homework.

Take home message: number of academic scholarships far exceed athletic ones by a wide margin.

If you are a National Merit Finalist (exceedingly well on PSAT), have a 3.9 or higher UNWEIGHTED GPA on a 4.0 scale (only had 1 B in final grade in 1 class through Junior year), then have at least 1300 SAT score or more, then regardless of how good you are male or female on a soccer field, you have a high possibility of getting a full ride.

That’s what happened to my oldest son.

How is it possible to be a National Merit Finalist, have a 3.9 unweighted GPA...and then only have a 1300 SAT score? Something sounds fishy here.
