Her migrant parents did not have time or money to watch or support soccer. They barely made it to any of her games. She learned what she did from watching soccer games on TV (with her dad) and with playing soccer with her brother and his friends. Watching games on TV is probably the most underrated way to learn the game. You don’t need an ex all star from NJ with layers of clothing and two foot longs in his back pack to teach you.
There are others in her shoes. Look at the Haitian national team. Dirt poor but rich in drive.great to see them do well
Soccer flourishes in poor countries. Ironic that in the US and in particularly in NJ it is a game for the wealthy. Always scratch my head when I see rich, fat girls barely move the ball. I guess the exercise is better than nothing. Go ECNL!

Expect more of these stories soon! In Europe soccer was not a real option 10 years ago for girls, now it is booming. In Latin American countries it is getting gradually more common as well. Since good Latin American girls in many occasions can not afford US Club soccer, they play with boys and develop faster. Already happening on a small scale.
