My D played in her HS sectional quarterfinals a few years ago, and at the end of the game, 2 coaches from local D2 schools went to the coach to ask about the recruitment status of all the seniors on the team. Of the seniors, all the club players were already either recruited or didn't want to play in college... there were 2 who did not play club but were fantastic athletes and both D2 coaches contacted them for opportunities. Neither of them ended up going as they both had higher college academic goals than what these D2 schools could offer, but apparently they had a good shot at scholarships if they wanted to pursue it.

Why all the hate for the local lower level teams? If your kid is good, they will dominate, get noticed and can get a scholarship just by playing in high school. Unless your kid has sights on going pro, stay local 20min max.

You're funny, in my area the nearest GA club is about 40 minutes and nearest ECNL is about an hour. The 2 closest ie under 30 mins, USYS/EDP clubs are a mid level Prem 3 and a bottom end Prem 5 and that is about it unless you look at local town travel league which at the HS age group is made up of players who won't play in college. On top of that her HS team SUCKS! She would absolutly never get noticed by anyone other than local D2 or D3 schools with poor performing programs and who's academics aren't what she is looking for at all. Instead I drive her an hour to and from practice 3x a week, several hours to games on the weekends, and to showcases in far off states and she is getting looks from colleges she wants to go to.

She has a big advantage — practice in Ohio is better. If DB could replace whole team with out of state studs, he would do it in a sec and not lose a second of sleep

They must feel their local options aren't very good for their needs. Solar in TX, one of the top clubs in the country, has a few out of state players.

That and there's no end to parental stupidity in youth sports...
