      Then you probably took on too much debt and/or aren't managing your payments right. Students should try to only take federal loans. Not only are they the better value but its cap'd at $25K for 4 years. That's a manageable payment even at the minimum amount. Two of mine bounced home for 1-2 years after college (the longer one during Covid) and paid nearly all theirs off before moving out. If you have to take on serious debt then either do state universities or CC for awhile then transfer if need be to finish the degree. Go to a slightly lower school to get more merit $.

      agree with the poster you responded to that families need to have these critical conversations before their students are looking. Athletes should take into account that if their sport doesn't pan out and they quit, the athletic money is gone. Then what? Transfers carry the risk of not getting the same $ also. Have a plan in case something happens.

        Short answer Yes. I am not disparaging going to college I just pointing out the way I did it got expensive.
