From the press release “EDP Soccer will continue to serve youth players and their parents, teams, and clubs in leagues it has established.”.

Time will tell how EDP managed leagues are impacted. After all, wasn’t EDP just planning events called soccer games?

EDP leagues will stay the same, but the price will go up. They need to make back their investment.

Interesting since they own New England Club Soccer League, NAL, RAL, and now EDP, and NY Club Soccer. They also have clubs like Aztec, Chicago FC United, Liverpool MA, Seacoast, and Best FC as well as Chicago Magic (an ECNL boys club). I'm wondering if this has anything to do with DPL coming to Mid-Atlantic.

There will continue to be a logical consolidation of youth sports. I think it would have happened faster had the Global Premier thing not happened. Smaller clubs will get merged into bigger clubs. Platforms will continue to get merged. There is unfortunately too much money in it not to happen. tbh - the landscape needs some better organization and there are too many clubs kind of winging it without proper facilities and organization.

This is good for EDP. The consolidation that happened with other leagues had to cause a concern regarding a long term relevance and existence. Becoming a part of the larger organization with strong presence in the East will help. Since they own a couple of higher level clubs, there may be a talk of a pathway, etc. They also own a referee organization now, so there may be some additional benefits. Surprised 3Step does not own any major training / tournament facilities, but maybe I just missed it. While they can be very expensive, they offer a nice cash cow when integrated in the business vertical.

For a long time EDP had been talking about building a huge indoor/outdoor complex somewhere in central NJ that would be used instead of Tuckahoe + the other scattered fields. I dont remember where it was (somewhere around Jackson maybe), but would have been nice.
