The money we all spend at these clubs with not much value given to us…..the only benefit over a town team is getting a better team to play with as you get older. That’s it. The only league that means anything is ECNL. If you can’t make that or maybe GA, there’s no reason to pay all this money on youth soccer in any other league. It’s a shame town teams break up soooo early.

For girls in NJ, there are only 4 teams per age group in ECNL (PDA and MFA) and 5 teams per age group in GA (CSA Bergen, CSA Monmouth, Real, SJEB, STA?).

There are many more players in each age group wanting to play soccer than what those 9 teams carry.

There are town teams charging slightly less than these for profit club teams because they are taking on paid trainers/coaches.

The costs associated to play are about the same regardless of the league. The number of true volunteer coaches outside of recreation is low. Bulk of expenses are coach fees from training to covering coach expenses for tournaments etc…Then account for league, ref, tournament, field rentals, club admin fees and then add on personal expenses for traveling with team. What other solutions do you have to account for everything that is involved?

Statement that only league that means anything is just not accurate. Should the kids that want to play but are not on ECNL or GA quit? There are just as many other options via ECRL, USYS, GA2/NAL, that provide similar experiences at the appropriate level of competition. Chasing a badge shouldn’t be the reason to play.

I agree that the landscape is creating financial barriers for players to enjoy the game. But decisions to play shouldn't be based on what league you are in. The system is built on paid individuals running it and offering services. “Showcases” basically are more money but less time on the field with fewer games however they provide a venue for exposure. There are different leagues and offerings with own expenses. Everyone wants a professionally trained team but doesn’t want to pay. Going rates for team trainers are $80-$150 a hour and many charge much more than that.

Everyone wants 20 games a season plus tournaments and 3-4 sessions a week but how can it be done for cheap if there are fees associated with everything involved given that it’s run and organized by paid professionals?

ECRL will get better over time. The problem isnt there are too many ECNL/GA teams, its that there are way too many mediocre clubs. It seems like there will be some continued consolidation. There are roughly 18 ECRL leagues for the 10 or so ECNL leagues, so this model has worked elsewhere. Mid-Atlantic RL has separate Virginia and Carolinas RL leagues. In terms of travel, I don't understand what everyone is complaining about. The RL games actually involve less travel than my younger kid's EDP games.

In terms of town travel, not everyone has a program that plays at a high enough level. Our town travel team doesn't even play EDP, ends at 8th grade, so not really an alternative. Many of the kids also play for clubs and the town travel are really just for fun.

You steal from the Parents, don't pay the coaches don't release the kids cards and still ask the reason for the court? You will see when you meet us at court next month, you will learn to respect the kids and parents more.

Im asking as a parent to another parent so just cool your jets with this YOU attack. Its one thing to accuse THEM of those things but if there are lawsuit against the club that you claim to to be a part of then please update the rest of us next month with the story . In that case it can actually enlighten and help parents with actual facts and truth if what your saying is true.
