Way too many ! They may include them in two different leagues so they get playing time but definitely too many for a coach to manage and give appropriate feedback

And depending on which league you play in with substitution rules even the rostered players won’t play.

The age group, competitive level, and team’s committment all factor into the equation. Older age groups experience injuries etc….so carrying only 16 will be problematic.
If there isn’t a strong pipeline, then some teams are forced to carry more knowing that they may not get new recruits the following season.
There are many types of situations so just lumping all scenarios into a category of x number of players of team is too narrow. I

From a parent perspective, it’s also about a lack of good options at the U15 and up level. Better to be in a good program with a large roster than on a team with abusive coaching or not on a team at all.

Listen, we are now in a roster of 20 for U10, as next year they are going 9v9 and it’s crazy… the good girls have completely stopped their development, yes, the bad ones are improving and the team is more balanced but it’s a lost year for the outstanding 3-4 girls… Just do two teams and hire another coach
