They were real stingy with high school waivers this year. Many did not get them even though they met all the qualifications of doing so, so not sure how many actually are in HS for them (each of those ages might be different though to, only speaking on one of them in particular). A bunch have also left to go to other teams. Seems like norm for MLS next is around 24-26 kids that they keep.

The rule is a 24 player average across all MLS teams at the club. If some teams are at 26, others have to be at 22 to even out the average. That also doesn’t allow for any roster adds throughout the year. The average I have seen at clubs seems to be about 19 kids.

I don't know about that...there are CSA 2008 MLSNext players on Manasquan, SJV and Colts Neck high school teams (that I've seen so far).
Top players at each club are expected only to be registered with MLS NEXT
Not permitted to play with another team within the club at any level outside of MLS NEXT
Not permitted to play middle or high school soccer
or they can designate you as a future player
Future (FR) Players:
No limit to number of players if compliant with Roster Rules
Able to participate in outside competition within their MLS NEXT club
Able to participate in middle or high school soccer
Can play up to 12 MLS NEXT matches during the Regular Season. Eligible for all MLS NEXT Events
Kids can train with the MLS team and play up to 12 MLS Next league matches plus any tournaments and still be on the High School / Middle School teams if they are designated as a Future Player. I don't know the 2008 CSA roster but I do know that for their 2011 and 2010 teams they do have a good amount of kids registered as Future Players and not Primary

And, assuming the club has open Primary Player spots (up to 24), those future players can be added to the Primary Roster. Up to 6 can be added until May 2024. Theoretically, a future player could play all of their team's first 12 matches, which would likely cover the entire high school season, then be added as a primary player. Our club has many more games in the spring than the fall.

Positive. My daughter is friends with one of them and he said they are on his team (and he is one of the better players on the MLS Next team).

The post above….someone explains it very well. You can be a future player for the fall and play up to 12 games and as soon as HS season ends, be reclassified as a primary player. Obviously they won’t do that for everyone, but it can be done within the rules. My sons mls next te only had 11 fall league games.
