    Illegal

I have a serious question. I am really conflicted and want to hear others opinions. Please do not bash me or turn this into a club witch hunt. I will not be naming the club. I’m just truly conflicted.

Would you report your club if you knew they were involved in illegal activities (nothing to do with the children or coaches- more financial) but doing so would punish the whole club? Here’s the deal:

My daughters town travel club conducts multiple illegal raffles. Every team does it and no one gets a permit from the state as they should. It’s very don’t ask don’t tell as fundraising is a must these days. I’ve always known about it, but I don’t much care as it’s about as scandalous as running a football pool, and it’s helping the kids who live in a world where youth sports is all about $$$.
My problem is that the latest game they ran was completely fixed. There is proof and evidence of the person running it having their best friend win. There are multiple people who want to report this. But in doing so, the entire club will get in trouble (and it will shine a spotlight on a club that has been in financial hot water before). People are really mad that they get forced to fundraise and sell raffle tickets- and then the prize was fixed anyway.
I don’t think we should report it, so the rest of the club doesn’t get in trouble. My friends say that’s being selfish and ignoring what’s right in favor of my own kid. They each dropped a required $100 on raffle tickets and feel duped.

    Thoughts?

    Report it.

Hmm financial hot water before. Sounds like run by the same losers. Where there is smoke there is fire.

My former club is kickback central - they overpaid a Technical Director (like $80K salary) who did nothing and held them up like we were lucky to have them. 3 years later no age group specific training or guidance on what to coach. All negotiated by the DOC and the club president.

Let's be clear - people like this have no reason to care for your kid other than to make them more money. They believe in taking is their right b/c they volunteer.

I've been involved with sporting organizations that are over 150 years old... The same old stuff... over and over... every few decades a new arse runs the club like it is their personal checkbook. Soon enough no club no nothing.

I don't want to tell you the club and I don't really want to report them, but I will detail the activity and let the TS audience decide. Okay (eyeroll).

Stay out of it and look for another club.

I wouldn't report it as that would cause more problems than it would solve but I would ensure management understands the results of the raffle need to be valid/not fixed.

Not like the big clubs are altruistic and don't shovel money to themselves "legally" so to speak.

We used to host parties in college. Charged $5 for guys, chicks were $2 or free depending on who was working the door. We'd raffle off bottles of booze, $1/ticket and we'd get a few hundred extra of which about 1/4 went to buying bottles. As we are reading out numbers I'd get someone in the know flashing me numbers, and I'd call out one of theirs and bingo!...we have a winner!! This goes on for months, and finally some drunk girl says "hey wait a minute...I've been coming here almost every Friday all year and it seems like the winners are al-" I cut her off "We have a winner!" and hand her a bottle.

                Good times.

Raffles are not sought by law enforcement. I don’t think they will pursue the past raffles as an issue. Fraud is more interesting to law enforcement, as is tax evasion (on the prize). I don’t think you will sink the whole club by reporting. Ask the club to correct it with the threat of reporting over their head. If they don’t correct it, gather your evidence and report it. If you don’t, you are part of the same system that you are complaining about. Not a good example for your kid.

Report it and get others to report it and also contact the associated press about it. Maybe something comes of it and those involved will be removed but make sure that you and the others are prepared to either leave or step up to lead.

                        Is this EH?

The parents aren't prepared to lead anything other than the complaint department.

You mean LEO that has their own illegal raffles and 50/50 fund raisers?

You should definitely report this. I doubt it will destroy the club. The issue is that many legitimate charities get a lot of grief from the state of NJ with these raffles, and they are true charities. Report it. Do the charities that really need the fundraisers a favor. It will legitimize the people who take the time to follow the rules and get the approvals to do so.

I love when soccer clubs that cost a **** load of money do these fund raisers. It’s silly. You’ve got all these kids who typically come from families with the means to pay for the fees to be in the club and then want to raise money. My club does it. I’d rather just pay extra and save myself the embarrassment of having to ask friends to donate to a non-charity.
