    High School Rules

New to high school soccer, so might be a stupid question. Is there any sort of limitation for varsity players playing on JV or Freshman teams? Like, if they play X amount of Varsity games, then they can no longer play down?

There are limitations to how many halves during a day a player can play and how many halves a week. Here's the rule: Section 9 Halves Per Day A soccer player shall play in no more than three (3) halves during the same calendar day, with a maximum of nine (9) halves per week. If a school elects to play one four (4) game week, an individual may not exceed twelve (12) halves in that four-game week. This would include any combination of freshman, sophomore, junior varsity and varsity competition. NOTE: Overtime periods are a continuation of the second half.

awesome, thanks. I did see that in the NJSIAA rules. So it seems like its just aggregate playing time in a given week, but nothing preventing a team from having all of their F, S, Jrs coming down for a JV game as long as they dont exceed their halves. In the state i played in HS, when you logged 3(ish) Varsity games, you could no longer play JV

Definitely no restrictions between V and JV, I somehow think there is a credit limit or max age for our school's Frosh team (meaning if you aren't over a certain number of credits and are either under 16 or no older than 16, you can play on freshman team) but I didn't see that in NJSIAA rules so I'm thinking I read it somewhere on our school's website so it might be a school district or county-specific rule. But V and JV can be treated almost as the same team - as long as the same kids aren't playing both halves of both games. Our school always has JV and V games at the same times on different fields so no one can really play both unless the varsity game time changes......
