Mls next clubs allowing
players to play hs and there is a rule agaist it why ? Full time players ?
Only kids that attend private high schools and there admission into said private school is dependent on them being on the soccer team. i dont know for sure, but i dont think there are a lot of Primary players that play HS.

Clubs will let the best players play HS, regardless of where they go to school. They don’t want to lose them so can’t do much. They will try obviously but the power is in the better players hands. Players lower on the roster won’t get the same chance. Another mess by US Soccer by ignoring how important a part of a players life it is in this country.

Ignorant comment. So much value to playing HS soccer. How many players in the MLS Next are going to play pro? 0.5 percent? The rest will regret not playing HS. It’s not harming their college chances and provides lifelong memories. Some HS soccer is a lot better than people think. Some is terrible. Keep drinking the Kool Aid that missing HS is some how going to stunt development and growth.

How is it ignorant? Who cares about how many are going to be playing pro? That is an ignorant comment to think everyone cares about becoming pro. Just because you liked playing high school soccer so much doesn’t mean it’s the best fit for kids now since the landscape has changed so much. The majority of kids playing MLS don’t want to play High School any way.
Most of the players on the MLS squads have been at these academies from a very young age and have never even played with the kids from their middle school and high school before, my son included. The majority of his teammates have never played in their town teams either. You are saying they are making lifelong memories by playing HS? Do you not think they are also making memories playing on the MLS Next Club team with friends they have been playing with for many years? They get the same life experiences on away trips to tournaments and hotel stays with their team you would get in a few week HS season and some bus rides. You are suggesting they should have to stop playing with their club team and go play HS for a couple months and then go back to their club? It absolutely stunts their development some if they had to stop playing with their team and focus on lower level HS for months, the games and training are a much higher level at MLS and they are with the team year round.
stop drinking the kool aid and thinking high school soccer matters to kids playing at a high level even a little bit any more. Sorry you kid isn’t friends with his teammates on the MLS next club and doesn’t enjoy playing with them and would rather play lower level town ball to feel important. Maybe some HS soccer is better than people think but where I live and have gone to watch games it is not very good.
yes. There is value to playing High School soccer. There are different levels. The kids that play high school enjoy it and then go back to their EDP club for the spring and enjoy that too. Just like kids who enjoy Rec soccer and maybe don’t make the high school team enjoy soccer the same amount. The MLS level
kids also enjoy it and stay together year round. They are just a little more dedicated.

It's not so much the pro aspect because by HS MLS kids know they're not on a pro track. Just about the only ones with a shot are at the pro clubs and even there only 1-2 each year might stand a chance.
However, many are giving up HS thinking it will help them land a D1 spot and a scholarship. Some will achieve that dream, many will not. First, there's fewer D1 men's programs, 100 fewer teams than women. Second there's fewer scholarships for men, 9.9 vs 14 for women. The several international players most D1 rosters have now will take a big chunk of those scholarship dollars. Do the math with what's left.
If your MLS team is the best option for you and you have zero interest in your HS team, sure go right ahead. If you're at a free MLS pro club you're going to get a ton of interest from good D1 peograms. But if you're on the fence about HS and doing it more for college opportunities? you should really look at your odds and what types of college programs you might target. Look at where players came from. Also look at where your club team send players too. Many of the pay to play club kids wind up at low D1,D2 and D3. EDP and other league players wind up at the same programs without giving up HS.
In the meantime, don't knock other people's choices.

No one is "giving up HS" the kids don't want to play it because its not fun or good quality. Some kids just want to play at a high level and don't worry about colleges and all that other noise. they have known for years they aren't playing in HS. the high school game is not important to higher level players. the same thing is happening in other sports as well. There is Red Bull, PDA, TSF, CSA North, CSA Bergen and Real. those are the only MLS clubs. if you want to play High School go play on one of the 200+ other clubs. its not a big deal

Not true there are tons of kids at these clubs who absolutely want to play HS. Just because your kid doesn't isn't an indication of everyone else's dilemma. Kids who go to big soccer schools are absolutely missing out and are pressured into playing MLS Next in the fall or they will not be rostered for major showcases or lose their role in the squad.

Agreed, and as for the poster saying "it's no big deal" or there's "200 club" to play on? It is a big deal for many players and isn't that easy. Yes some don't want their HS teams because their HS teams are weak etc. But some HS programs are quite good, the players are quite good and the non MLS options really poor. This isn't about the top kids at the pro club but the rest at the pay to play clubs. They aren't going pro, they aren't top college prospects.
