For those of you with kids playing college...

...do you go to the games? If so, how many? Home games? Away games? etc.

Our older one is too far (requires flights which add up) so we try to hit 1-2 home games and then any closer to home games we can drive too. Some families hit all of them because they're closer or have more $ I suppose. Others hardly any. Our next one is leaning into programs closer to home which would be nice, but I can't imagine going to all the games.

You should really look into NJ Bkaze. Probably the best coaching option in NJ.

We are dealing with that now. If games are on a weekend we will drive up, it's only 3hrs by car, then we'll spend the weekend with our daughter.

We only missed a couple games over the years which were usually mid-week games with a road trip from he11 to get to.

Totally different atmosphere than youth travel and one of the things I found ironic was the parents seemed more normal and the coaches seem more insane at the college level.

I used to contemplate if my daughters coach was even trying to win games as it sure didn't seem like it based on who played and how much.

Let me guess…..you’re one of the normal parents who second guess the college coach and also complains about your daughters playing time. LOLOL

our friends hit every game. He owns a business and works "from home", so they just go and he works somewhere for a couple of days and deducts it (he does do business when he goes). Nice if you have the option

That's great. Unfortunately, my d goes to school in California so that's not an option

How involved are the parents with things like tail-gating etc?

Because the parents aren't worried any longer. They're at the finish line. Also most coaches will pass on the truly crazy parents - it's usually pretty obvious but they also ask about the family when they talk to the club coaches.

College coaches can sometimes be crazier because their job literally depends on their record. Club coaches have other teams, other jobs and side hustles.

Different poster. I think it varies a lot by program. Some teams have families that are more spread out, making get togethers and seeing all the games tougher. There's always at least one really big game/ event everyone goes to, like a home game against a top rival, planned activities etc. . Programs with kids/families more readily drivable is different. Here in the NE with so many schools and compact geography it's easier.

Usually at the beginning of the season a parent is in charge of compiling a parent contact list for a “team group chat” where everyone can organize a tailgate either at home or away games. Parents will say if they are attending then we organize the parent tailgate.

Home games are typically more involved but both are good times. Away games most parent activity is typically pre-game because you want to leave as soon as the final whistle blows and home games you usually get both pre and post. It really does depend on the travel distance and if it is a weekend game or not. Weekend away games you usually have pre and post similar to home games. Those midweek away games can be brutal-lol

Home games are typically be more "elaborate" and we always bring something even if we can't stay and hang/have another event etc.
