    Torpedoes Town Club

The Wyckoff Torpedoes are one of the stronger town clubs in Northern NJ. The older the players become, the more this club struggles to retain their players. They also have a rule that they must roster a certain amount of players from the Wyckoff areas. The club is beginning to lose players at early age groups as many are leaving for stronger clubs/coaches. Recently their 2011 girls team started to lose players and now their 2012/2013 teams are. Similar coaches are running the boys side and we are beginning to see some of those teams struggle. We have a great history and are hoping to turn this around and back into the club we once were. Please visit our website and contact our directors if you would like your son or daughter to attend one of our sessions.

I don't doubt the credentials But are the torpedoes all that different from.an academy - seems like there needs to be an inbetween classification to separate them from true town clubs.

How strict is the resident rule? Town isn't that big so I'm assuming surrounding areas count.

But the soccer landscape has changed and the deck is stacked against any team that cant offer the world at the older ages. Parents are chasing that earlier and earlier and I don't see that changing without changes to the machine.

The Torpedoes won’t survive after U11. It’s historical. They take as many teams as possible and have daddy coaches on the sidelines with a trainer. One trainer/head coach has like 4-5 teams. They need to win at the younger ages just to hope they make it past U11. Once they play quality competition or teams after U10, it’s all downhill from there

100% accurate. We don’t make the rules and won’t sacrifice our kid’s development and/or future for a noble purpose. I feel bad for the smaller, local clubs. It’s become a business. The pay to play model has spiraled out of control. It started with the UK elite “lads” coming stateside looking to monetize the US market with the fancy accents and resume of playing “pro” in the UK. Uneducated American parents opened the wallet.

If the kids don’t make the jump at U-11 or U-12, apparently they run the risk of not getting conditioned for the speed of play. If they do, apparently they’re at risk of getting unseated by the the “lab kids” or those why bloom after puberty at U-14.

I cannot speak for their boys as I have 2 Ds in the younger age groups. Their best 2011 recently left for World Class and their other two are leaving after this season. Their 2012 team is average and have some potentially leaving after the season. Their 2013 top players are leaving for Crush and Matchfit. Their 2014s are still very young.

This is what a Torpedoes type club exists for. Train the younger kids, provide opportunities to play and eventually the best few kids will move to higher level teams. I get that we all wish we could go back to Town travel being worthwhile after middle school but that horse has already bolted.

I've always been impressed by the (boys) Torpedoes teams I have seen...they are clearly being developed properly and play some really nice soccer, more so than some of these big name club teams. The whole u.s. league structure really does a disservice to our youth players, just becomes a funnel to a few teams that play to win so they can attract more talent

Did the 2011 red girls fold? I can’t seem to find where they are playing in the spring.
