Is ECNL and ECRL club based? Does a club need to field a team across all age groups? Does the entire club within the league have a set home and away schedule all year for league play? US Club runs ECNL and ECRL, correct?
Does GAL have the same model and requirements for the clubs? Is GAL under USYS, US Club or someone else? Is there a 2nd division for GAL?
Does MLS Next have the same club based approach for their teams?
Is USL even a factor at the youth level? Are there other leagues relevant?
Elite 64, under USYS, appears to be following that same club v club mode.
For independent teams then, the only pathway is USYS NL where they wouldn’t be restructured if the rest of the club can’t field teams.
The landscape seems to be and is a mess. There is so much segmentation. I guess too many people are making $$$s to even consider revamping the system. US Soccer would never step in.
So agree with the “no idiot” comment. The leagues are far from set up to promote/relegate at the club level year to year. There are too many moving parts. Independent teams just need to maximize their experience through the NL. The system isn’t designed to reward them with inclusion into the closed network of leagues.

Stupid. The entire idea is to consolidate the # of fields, coaches and travel required to have two clubs across 4+ age groups play each other on a single day. The club v club system is designed to actually keep costs lower. Generally speaking, clubs perform in a relatively narrow range, so they can feel confident in teh type of games they will get in the club match ups. This is true for ECNL, GA, MLSN and any other club based league.

All this sounds like people are comfortable with where their kids are playing and do not want to move or try to move to an ecnl team. So they would rather the ecnl change everything in order to get their kids to play in the ecnl. It’s very simple, try out for 1 of the 4 teams available in NJ

No GA is not part of USYS
Why wouldn't USL be a factor at they younger ages or be relevant? They aren't as wide spread as ECNL or MLS Next but they still have a path to the semi-pro USL league
Yes, USYS NL or Champions League or whatever they decide to call it this year is the highest a none club v club team can get on a national level other than playing in tournaments that allow cross over between leagues
Yup, it is a mess. US Soccer, as THE national authority, should step in and fix the entire landscape but we live in a capitalist, democratic society with over entitled people so it will never happen
Club v club should be removed entirely, to many clubs living off the backs of one or two teams or a legacy that they haven't lived up to in years.

In the end, what we are paying for is the platform, that in general, is the highest reasonable level of play. If ECNL wasn't of a consistent quality coaches would stop coming. Colleges are not interested in what the best youth team in the country are. they are looking for players for their program and keep in mind that the quality of programs vary greatly themselves.
If ECNL were to introduce Pro/Rel they need a robust ECNL R league. They would likely have to Pro/Rel based on a system of club points. They would also have to allow at least the top two clubs in ECNL R to still compete in the ECNL showcases along with the currently growing ECNL R showcases.
If you Relegate a ECNL club to ECNL R you risk losing them to GA. The club still needs to be able to offer the guarantee of ECNL showcases the parents came to the club for. So essentially, teams/clubs can be relegated out of ECNL league play but not the showcases.

They are not intended to develop or create a National team. Their purpose is being a showcase league. They are not interested in every team being the "best" team possible. They are a platform for colleges to do as much one stop shopping as possible. Players and parents gravitate towards these leagues because they guarantee a certain level of college exposure. Team by team Pro/Rel introduces uncertainty to players and parents for that kind of exposure. It is easy for clubs to sell the guaranteed platform. Over time it tends to create a more consistent product.

Its possible that one club might be better at attracting and developing 40 kids per age group than another ECNL club is at developing 20 players.
IF ECNL wants to showcase players - they want the best players - regardless of league. I hope they are opening the door for great RL players to have exposure to great schools and programs.

There are some very limited ways that Pro/Rel could work but it would rely upon practically a monopoly. ECNL would have to eliminate GA from competition for any true Pro/Rel system to take place.
That said, ECNL is growing ECNL R showcases in their own right. So to your point, yeah, there are lots of college capable players out there on ECNL R teams and they are finally getting a platform of their own.

Look some clubs should be relegated. They're awful. But politically it's a mine field. Also some have boys ECNL teams which doubles the politics. Wg FSA girls is terrible but their boys teams are solid. Demote or even boot the girls teams but what does the club do or feel about the boys teams
