The ones who think that the investment in club soccer, private training, travel, etc. will somehow lead to a positive return on investment for a college scholarship. Haha Good times.

Going back a bit but D was in the finals for edp states and was keeping the ball at her feet until the forward challenged her to pick it up. They were up 1-0 and she wasted a good 3 minutes due to the opposite team not paying attention. The parents were going absolutely nuts yelling at the kids. Afterwards a parent from the opposing team was brazon enough to walk up and call her a cheating Biotch.

The problem is, it can. Extremely low odds, but enough that clubs can point to a few players and say "SEE!!" and parents take the bait.

The craziest are the ones who coach from the sidelines... despite having played very low level or zero soccer themselves. As if their sideline screaming motivation will assist the kids with their D1 scholarship.

These are the ones who keep the system running. It’s unfortunate

Absolute best part of my day is when a kid turns
to dad and says “Dad stop!”

My D has a teammate who has to do this every other game and its always hard to see. All the sideline "help" just has the opposite effect and you can just see the confidence and fun drain from the player in those moments.

That is too bad. If the kid likes or doesn't mind the motivation from the sideline that is one thing, but once they make it clear they want you to keep quiet, you need to do so. I used to be more vocal (almost always in a positive way) when my kids were younger but one daughter said it made her feel uncomfortable so I pretty much say nothing, sit back and enjoy the game. It really is much more enjoyable this way.

this is not fair. access to the College system requires Club soccer. it is set up this way on purpose. What other option do parents have?

Put your kid around the best soccer people available. Take her to college ID’s.

No it doesn't. Unless your saying club soccer is travel soccer then yes at least have to be on a travel team.

the system is set up to make the large showcases an integral part of College recruiting. Access to those is controlled by the premium cost leagues and clubs.

best soccer people available. How does a parent find those people? what resources are available to make an objective choice?

So that’s what you call yelling out at your daughter while standing on the sidelines, “motivation”. Let me tell you about what you call motivation. Girls were playing at an ECNL Showcase in Florida. A parent was yelling motivation to his daughter who was playing on the pitch. What the parent didn’t know was the college coach scouting his daughter was also standing on the parents sideline and heard/watched everything being said. That player was “ghosted” by the coach after that day. Lesson to be learned by this story. Parents who know nothing about soccer and have never played soccer shouldn’t “motivate” their kids while they are playing. That’s what a coach does. That kid lost a commitment opportunity from a very good Patriot League school because the parent couldn’t shut up with their motivation.
