7v7 to 9v9 Transition

U-Little parent here who appreciated the the advice in the 9v9 to 11v11 transition thread. Is this a big jump for the kids? I noticed a lot of teams will play up in tournaments or spring a year early. Similar to the other thread "
Experienced parents who have gone through this. What should we expect to see?"

Not a huge leap like 9v9 to 11v11 is. In fact, most clubs don't have proper 9v9 fields so a majority of 9v9 games are played on 7v7 fields/nets. By second year of 9v9, play is awful because kids outgrow the field. Goalies punting to goalies, etc.

Poor coaching and tactics lead to that. Punting at 11v11 is just as useless...

Agreed punting can be a 50/50 ball at best, but at least at 11v11 it's not going to the other goalie.

yea, if you play a team with a larger than average goalie on a poorly maintained grass field, it can be hard to try a play good soccer. The goal gets the ball, punts it was past mid field, and you can end up back by your goalie. Then if you try and bring it out, and the grass is long, it can be hard without having to play kick ball. There are some clubs that play this way and do well in 9v9, but they cant understand why the results to not carry to 11v11. You can see the teams this will happen to. You look at their results, and there 4-0 on their home field (since it is the small grass field they are use to) and 0-4 away on turf fields. The better clubs sacrifice winning at 7v7 or even 9v9 to develop good players
