A lot of call ups are one and dones. A player that gets multiples has something there, even though often it seems like it's more about their Instagram followers

This selection is great for kids selected but I can't even imagine the depth of politics in the process. Narrowing this down to a small number must be incredibly difficult and I am sure it involves coaches knowing other coaches knowing the players. Great accomplishment but can imagine many unhappy deserving kids as well.

It’s 95% political which is why we lose. Lose and keep losing. It used to be merit intelligence but those days gone, sadly. They need to redo the entire system which I suspect will happen when the USWNT loses in Germany and fails in World Cup. Then all will be revamped- coaches gone, players changed, scouts gone.

That's exactly what a lot of people here are trying to point out. They pick the studs and then they play like studs instead of team players. That U17 team lacked cohesion and we're not able to connect 4 passes together. I don't think they're not picking the best players, I think they're not picking the best teams. I saw a lot of girls that wanted to score but I didn't see any girls that wanted to assist. You get some of that from the culture and the rest from players attitude. There is not enough emphasis on play building, risk rewards decision making and possession. I honestly do think that we have stronger athletes we just need to change the value system to highlight different skills.

Good way to look at it. It's not just about the quality of each player but how they play together.
